the coast guard is out on the hudson river in new york working to clear the water.ick leventhal is on board one of the ice breaker. will carr got sent to honolulu, rick. what's it like where you are? >> reporter: i think it's a little bit colder here. just a little bit. we're on the hudson river well north of new york city now. you can see the ice on the river here. it's thicker the farther north you go. just look over the side at this 140 foot cutter, the penobscot bay. it sends it flying on either side. this ice is here much earlier this winter than years past. they even been at it since two days after christmas and will be out here probably for the next two months. we shot footage with one of our fox news drones of this very same ship just a bit north of where we are. the ice was about 6 to 8 inches thick. this cutter can blast through ice 27 inches thick and up to three feet if it backs up and tries to ram through it. this group will be at this for the next couple of weeks. the coast guard will be out here for the next couple of months. >> dana: so why is it so
