sid zeigler and hudson taylor joining me now. great to have you here. ben, i start with you.w you from your work on the rugby field and off the field being active in promoting lgbt rights in the uk and united states and your stand-up foundation have the support of prime minister david cameron. to all of us when we look at what is taking place in russia, why aren't there more straight allies that have come forward within russia to try to help out and deal with the discrimination that is taking place within their country? because here we are outsiders looking in, don't they need a bigger incountry movement to deal with this than us? >> i think, firstly, it's a difficult place to be. i think people bistandard f-by not speaking up. i think the occasion the olympics bring is a special moment. we just had the london games and it was absolutely amazing. the whole atmosphere, what it did for the country, what it brought out in the athletes was phenomenal. and to see this olympic games because it's anti-gay law, i'm speechless. i don't know what to say about it. it returns to true spo

hudson taylor is the founder and executive director of athlete ally. -profit group focused on ending hoo phobia in sports. so hudson, first off, what do laws like this mean for you and your organization? it's everything you worked to fight against. >> yeah. you know, i founded athlete ally to make sports safe and accessible for everybody. when we have an athletic competition as high profile and important as the winter olympics, being hosted in a country that is violating human rights every single day, it is in direct opposition to everything we're fighting for. so it's really important that we focus on how these -- how lgbt athletes, how lgbt affirming fans are going to be treated at the games. we want to make sports safe and accessible for everyone. right now it's not certain that sochi will be a place where that's the ca is. >> so you work with a number of gay and straight athletes. how are they responding to this? >> there's a lot of mixed approaches. i mean, i think there's still a lot of advocates that are unsure as to what the proper approach is a

so, let's talk more about that with hudson taylor, founder and executive director of athlete alley.roup dedicated to encouraging athletes and others to respect all people involved in sports. good morning. >> morning. >> so, the ioc comes out and says, hey, if you're gay and you're going to compete in the olympic games in russia, don't say anything about being gay because the olympics is no place for politics. your reaction? >> well, i think because of these russian laws, all of a sudden being gay or being who you are becomes political or becomes something that could be seen as political. so, we're in a very interesting place because if you turn to other pieces within the olympic principles, you have olympic principle number six saying discrimination of any kind should not be tolerated and is incompatible with belonging to the olympic movement. so, on one hand, you have russian law, which is in direct opposition to these principles and then on the other you have the ioc using these principles to call on athletes to hide who they are. it's really unfortunate. >> i think the olympic co
