news channel 8's ryan hughes is live this morning. ryan, what is behind the big jump in the estimate for the damages? >> reporter: gene and gayle, good morning to you. the closer the county officials looked, the more places they realized were hit hard by hurricane hermine including this mobile home park here. let's go to video now. this is what part of the county looked like at the height of the flooding. hurricane hermine roared through and dropped several inches of rain. spilling into neighborhoods. emergency managers put out that high damage estimate for home, businesses and properties. more than 300 homes sustained major damage in the storm. one woman told us her house flooded and now it has mold. >> i've got kids that are asthmatic. that's a no-go right there. that right there put the icing on the cake. >> reporter: again, hurricane hermine is considered one of the costliest disasters in county his. leaders plan to apply for state and federal aid. that could take months if not longer as the clean-up goes on here. gene and gayle,

and our ryan hughes in sarasota county this morning. we begin with leigh in the studios for the latest on the tropical storm hermine. >> what a good thing to wake up and it not be pouring because it rained for 15 hours or so yesterday. we really needed at least a little bit of a break so that some of the water could recede. look at the big system. basically from the yucatan up to jacksonville. having some impact from what the current advisories, look at the red shaded area here along the panhandle. that's a hurricane warning meaning hurricane-force winds within 36 hours. locally from cedar key, new port richey and citrus, hernando, pasco counties, that, that's a tropical storm warning meaning tropical storm-force winds are expected within 36 hours. but really, within 24 hours i expect you to see the stronger winds coming in. and the reason why is because the storm is finally picking up now moving north, northeast at 12 miles per hour. and maximum sustained winds of 60 miles per hour. this afternoon, 65 miles per hour winds. and between

and ryan hughes is in cedar key this morning. and ed bloodsworth is in tampa monitoring the conditions. but first, meteorologist leigh spann tracking now tropical storm hermine with a look. >> that's right. just downgraded as of 5:00 this morning and the center has pushed into georgia. the scope of it is huge. extending basically fr now the land fall happened with 80 miles per hour winds, making it a category one hurricane at 1:30 this morning at the border of jefferson county. and now i'm going to talk about the effects on us. we have a tropical storm warning that continues for our area. that's the orange shaded communities that you see. that means tropical storm-force winds could still be felt because the feeder bands that wrap into the center of from the east coast to tampa but all the way out into the gulf of mexico. and this will continue to rotate onshore. not only because of the heavy rain that's going to fall but embedded in a feeder band, you get a lot of rotation. that's why the tornado watch continues for citrus, herna

that's where we find news channel 8's ryan hughes live this morning. what's the latest development there? >> reporter: good morning to you gene and gayle. more than six hours later and deputies and investigators remain here at this home on here in the brandon the area. you can see a number of them standing outside right now. that has been the case all morning long. the door to the front of the home was open for an extended period of time but they have since closed it investigation inside and continues at this point. and let's go video we shot earlier from this scene. we are told by a spokesman that someone called 911 from the home or in neighborhood around 12:00 this morning. they reported a dead person inside and the home. at this point though, investigators aren't saying how that person died. they have interviewed some people in connection to the case but they tell us and stress that there's no ongoing search for a suspect right now. crime scene tech anythings have with evidence. and back here live, you can see roughly a half dozen investigators and
