hugh hewitt is joining me from the hugh hewitt show. thank you for joining me. hugh, before we play the response. do you think this is going to have any impact on his campaign? >> oh, absolutely. i'm a big believer in momentum in sports and politics. i'm wearing my browns jersey for the convention in cleveland and i'm a browns fan but i wanted to make the point that momentum matters a lot and what happened on jake's show yesterday is what we would call a game changer, in politics, equivalent to mitt romney's 47% comment four years ago, equivalent to gerald ford's comment that poland is free. as bad, much worse than hillary clinton saying she was broke when she left the white house. gaffes are a terrible thing but a gaffe about race, when you're offered three chances to denounce david duke and the kkk and you miss three times, when you've done it the day before and you do it the day after is a fundamental issue now going forward and i had ted cruz on my show tonight, you had marco rubio earlier, they both have jumped on this and they are not going to let it go. i

the host of the hugh hewitt show. >> he disagrees with us. >> hugh, save this conversation from eating itself. has your view of what happens in cleveland changed at all and what is your prediction? >> no. and i hesitate to disagree with nicole. not with you, eugene. but i think it's a split decision tonight. utah goes very solidly for cruz, probably 50% plus. i'll be the first to say it, everything turns on scott walker in wisconsin. if ted cruz wins in wisconsin, he's going to change the narrative going into the later primaries in april, pennsylvania, wyoming and new york where it's by congressional district. so right now, every political reporter in america is trying to find out what scott walker is going to do. because if ted cruz wins wisconsin, it's going to be an open convention. i had john kasich on my program earlier tonight and the governor continues to say he's going to compete everywhere. but if he doesn't back out of wisconsin and yield the terrain to ted cruz, which is natural ted cruz land, given that it's a very conservative republican party in wisconsin, club for growth

hui hu hugh hewitt, thanks for the time. hallie jackson, we're covering what ted cruz had to say about some strategic thinking that's getting out there about cruz campaign maybe not wanting to team up with kasich at the convention. obviously cruz also getting that momentum yesterday in wisconsin with the endorsement of scott walker. how are they looking at this race right now? >> well, so i think the campaign wants to obviously do well in wisconsin. it's a state where they want a strong showing not just because of the delegates at play, steve, but because of the momentum factor to turn around and say, as the race moves east, we can succeed in a state like wisconsin, but they're also looking to contest that is have already happened. as we've been talking about in places like louisiana, places where there are state conventions and places like, for example, this weekend, north dakota. you talk about teaming up with kasich, the cruz campaign, remember, is fundraising. they've got organization on the ground. they've got some stea

let's go back to hugh hewitt. >> thank you, jake. governor kasich, the math on the maps say you can only become the nominee if in fact there is a contested convention. if we arrive on the shores of lake erie, donald trump has the most delegates, why shouldn't the person with the most delegates, even if it's not a majority of delegates be the nominee? >> math doesn't tell the whole story in politics. the great thing about politics, the reason why we watch it is because what's true today is not necessarily true tomorrow so let's not get ahead of ourselves. secondly, look, when you went to school up there in salem, ohio, okay, if you got an 86, you got a b. because everybody else had an 84 didn't mean you got an a. so you just have to win enough delegates to be the nominee. and, frankly, i don't know if we're going to get a convention like that but if we do, i was at one in 1976 as a wee lad and supported ronald reagan and actually worked directly with him. he tried valiantly. he lost. gerald ford one. the party was united. gerald ford

. >>> we're going to turn now to hugh hewitt, he's the host of the hui hui wit radio show. let's pick up on that question about where marco rubio would go from here if the polls are right, if he does lose his home state of florida, he is still sitting right now on 160 or so delegates, i imagine if there is this open convention, i know you've been talking about that possibility, he would want to be a broker there, but what can he realistically do if he doesn't win florida tonight? >> well, he comes to california on june 7th for one thing where three delegates are awarded per congressional district on june 7th. i think senator rubio will look at ohio and if john kasich wins ohio as i expect he will and i note you have your gray sweater on, steve, we need a scarlet tie to make you ohio state university perfect. if he sees governor kasich win ohio he will say we're going to an open convention, my delegates are my delegates, i'm going to go to places like california and wait to see what happens because this is a race of constant evolutions, constant iterations where rubio might

the issue of israel palestine they came up in the republican debate in the line of questioning by hugh hewitt. this exchange begins with marco rubio. he referred to the occupied west bank as judea. >>. interested in a serious deal and there are now in union with hamas, whose specific purpose is the destruction of the jewish state. every time that israel has turned over territory of any kind, be a gaza or now in judea and samaria, it is used as a launching pad to attack israel. that is what will happen again. these groups are not interested in a deal with israel, but interested in ultimately removing the jewish state and occupying its entire territory. maybe in 30 years the conditions will exist, but they do not exist now as to how the president is forcing the israelis to the table. it is harmful to the -- [applause] >> if i become president of the united days, one of the things that will be an absolute priority is number one protection of israel but also seeing if a deal can be made, the toughest deal, the toughness -- toughest negotiation a matter where you look, no matter how hard you look.
