pictures we are seeing now -- these are the two buses that came from the borderline between serbia and hungary. these are the people who went from macedonia to serbia, to try to reach hungary and try to reach probably germany as everybody is saying that. but they couldn't cross the border because it was blocked by hungarian police and military, so as they told me, they got information from red cross, from serbian government, they were saying go to the buses, go to the border from serbia and croatia, and you can cross into european union so they listened to those advises and came here. these -- we see maybe 150, 20 0 people that came at the moment, before this there were 400 people that came and went to the border with croatia. now you -- you don't see the regular border crossing here. this is some dusty road that it is two kilometers from regular border between serbia and croatia, and they are going on alternative routes into croatia. >> okay. marco, thank you very much indeed for giving us an update on the situation there as these refugees hope to get into croatia and into the european union

hungary, will face a three-year prison sentence. just a while ago, we were up the border a bit at the railroad crossing that goes from serbia into hungary has been sealed. a railway car there and wire there and completely closed. refugees were going up and down the fence looking for a way to cross. one asked me if i could put them in touch with a smuggler who would help them. they don't want to come to hungary. they want to pass right through, but it doesn't appear that even that's going to be possible. it is important to keep in mind the fencely built on the hungarian side is flimsy. it is not surprising if men would buy wire cutters and slip under the border. we have seen an increased military presence on the border, including helicopters flying overhead in the event somebody tries to cross. it is only a matter of time before that happens. >> you will see these refugees and migrants rely on smugglers which is not the way to go. >> reporter: no, it is quite dangerous. we have seen how dangerous it was. in austria where 71 people last month were found dead in a refrigerator car -- truck. suffocating. although the authorities are talking

we start the program by taking you live to hungary where police have blocked the main crossing point for refugees between serbia and hungary. you can see it there those live first. anderson increase of border checks, despite freedom of movement across borders being a key principle for the european union. austria says they are following germany, as the destination point for refugees. germany's vice chancellor says the move isn't designed to keep people out. instead it's aimed at producing a more orderly flow of people. roughly seven house from now on monday hungary is set to introduce much tougher border checks, people smugglers jailed. the move heaped pressure on ministers meeting in brussels to deal with the refugee crisis, you can see the pictures on the hungarian border town of ruska. now we can see dozens of hungarian police blocking the refugees main crossing point. as i was saying, the hungarian officials say they have done it a few hours earlier. we can get more details now from our correspondent, al jazeera andrew simmons who is there in ruska there. what is going on? >> live pictures from this directio

hungary in the coming days. everybody very aware that the border from serbia into hungary will be closed within at matter of hours. when we get to the hungarian side of the border, it is effectively sealed. construction of the fence nears completion and police, some of them mounted on horseback, are out in greater numbers. soldiers guard gaps that just hours earlier refugees walked through. while families barred from entry decide to make a path towards another possible crossing point, a train carriage outfit in razor wire is transported here to stop the influx once and for all. just one more road block for these refugees on a road that seems to get longer every day. >> you know that report showing just how much pressure there is on these people, particularly since the european union seems unable to agree on how to deal with them. >> that's absolutely right. in fact, even though we are not seeing many here at the border crossing today as far as refugees, we are told that there are a few hundred that are still trying to get into hungary a couple of kilometers at the official border crossing. we have seen two or thr
