with that, i will briefly talk about hunter's view. just so you all know, most of our work with malcolm x, it is adjacent to hunter's view, has been our most exciting work when it comes to education. on the physical side, i just wanted to make sure that you guys knew what was going on at hunter view. we will be starting at vertical construction at hunter's of the next week. they will come on line and they will be a blend of public housing and tax credits. 18 months from now, there will be new units at the site. we have started a great partnership with the school. we are in a good place. knock on tax is one of our strongest partnerships. that is where it is starting with hope sf. >> i have two questions before i make the transfer. the goals about evaluating, i am curious if they are going to be evaluating the housing or city partners or if bay are also going to be evaluating the capacity built in the residence. >> the way the evaluation is laid out, it is laid out in the three goals. the most important is whether or not we have been abl

hunter: it's a continuum. at one end, you have your regular maintenance that you do every day on the system, and at the other end, long-term planning so that every year we're repairing, replacing the right things, and we don't have to do it all at once, which is, quite frankly, what we're having to do in atlanta now. griffin: we have thousands of assets that we have to keep track of. we have to always know their condition and continuously plan for their refurbishment at the right time. one of the things we're required to do under the consent decree is inspect our system. we're trying to find where there's leaks. so we blow smoke into the sewer pipe. man: we're locating places where water from the surface to the ground is running into the sewer pipe and overloading the system. hunter: we have 1,600 miles of sewer. we are evaluating every linear foot of that system. is the pipe leaking; are you having a lot of infiltration or inflow? thornell: every time it rains, water will come down, go into the pipe, enter th

new companies that are coming into the hunters point and bayview area -- as you know, we opened fresh and easy just last month on august 24. i opened that stored to the light of so many residents to see their first full grocery store service. this is their second store in san francisco. the first one opened up on june 20. in addition to fresh and easy, san francisco's wholesale market produce is located in the bayview, and that produce market currently houses 30 companies in the 300,000 square foot wholesale market place. a produce market is a source of good jobs that pay well, and they do not require four-year degrees. the market's 200,000 square feet expansion will generate an additional 350 permanent jobs and $500 million in economic impact, keeping and creating good jobs in san francisco. another economic anchor for the community will be a 3 million square foot innovation district of green office space, clean technology, research and development uses. the district is anticipated to create 10,000 permanent jobs, " that will benefit the bayview hunters point community as well as the

when the redevelopment agency came to the hunters point, there was going to be a lot of development. by san francisco being a union town, we were not getting the jobs. i was one of those that went to the labour council and at that time, it was dan smith that was the secretary. i said, if you intend to have workers, i will make sure that people from my community, we got a memorandum of understanding through the city planning department that 51% of the workers that would work on executive park would come from bayview hunters point. we want to have something on record. stan smith became the board member. and the statement at that time was a person, they would go and stan smith would approve the fact that it was coming through to work and it would join the union. in the 1970's, that is what we did. that has been 40 years. and my question, because i know he is here, i couldn't believe, when i found out a few months ago, he is the vice president of the black organization and opposes local hiring. i could not understand that. when i started asking about of prejudice, what people can become,
