lauren demarco has been following the story and joins us live from the spot where it happened in hyattsville. lauren. >>reporter: tone initial route 350 moving okay right now. everything has been reopened, but around 3:00 p.m. in the middle of the day today a car was shot up in the eastbound lanes. it happened just east of 295. take a look at the scene. there was a gray kia, a sedan. there were three men inside of it. the three of them were shot outside you can see about 13 bullet holes on the car. the men were taken to the they are all expected to survive. the prince george's county police tell us they do not believe this was random. so somebody targeted the car likely in a vehicle also heading in the same direction on route 50. shell case were found as far as 100 yards away from where the kia stopped. the other vehicle also that you see at the scene belong to police and witnesses. the suspect or suspects took of on. right now police are still working to provide us with a description. eastbound route 50 traffic was diverted onto 295 for more than four hours, but several dozen cars near the

back in 1959, a fire swept through a home on fifth avenue in hyattsville. firefighters rescued a two year were trapped inside the house. the kids grew up and recently put out a note on facebook hoping to meet the people who safed their lives. today one of those former firefighters, stew newman was reunited with linda and michael heart. (applause). newman is 84 years old now, but he tells us he remembers what happened as if it were yesterday. i do remember handing linda out the window to a police officer that was on the ladder on the rear of the building, taking michael out off the bed. it was very smoking up there. i about the onto the stairwell and took my air mask off and put it on his face because he was without air longer than i was. got downstairs and handed them to the ambulance crew. i didn't go with them. linda and michael heart say they owe their lives to newman and the othe one more note we also found out today that linda actually worked at fox5 back in the 1970s. it is always such a spall world. what an incredible reunion today, though, wasn't it
