the project will greatly reduce the clutter on the beach and hyde street sidewalks. currently bikes are -- they do have a retail outlet at the project site right now and bikes are being moved back and forth on the sidewalk along hyde street. these two buildings will now be connected internally so that bikes will now be able to move internally off the street. it's also going to allow for garbage and recycling to be put out on hyde street, further opening up the sidewalk on beach street, which is as you all know, heavily walked by tourists. so jeff and elena are in a very unique position due to their existing business and building in the neighborhood, to make this project work at this location. they currently have 100 employees during the summer months and the project will allow them to continue to grow their san francisco-based business. i've got 22 letters in support and 37 merchant signatures and a group of folks to speak in favor of the project tonight. thank you. we urge your support. vice president wu: public comment? >> we will now open this up for public commen

hyde -- wiould be hyde street. it looks like a height is 43.6, and the buildings to the west, the martin lawrence building looks like it is 33 feet, and there is a building further to the west that is 37, and further to the west it looks like it is about 56 feet. there is no shadow study, but i am trying to see if the addition to the fact is high enough to block light to the backs of the dublin -- building. >> this project is four stories high. there are two projects, and it requires 25% rear yard, so for the last 34 feet, the upper stories provide a real requirement for the residential units. along the sides of the building, both three residential buildings would have rear yards varying from approximately 17 feet. 17 feet would be the narrowest, and two would be open to the required rear yard for the project. good >> it does provide a separation. what you're saying is in has a death rather than a solid structure -- is it has a deck rather than a solid structure? on parts that is correct. a height limit is 40 feet.

in other words, they're going to exacerbate a bad parking situation that this business causes on hyde street and makes it virtually impossible for the neighbors who live on hyde street to find a place to park. to my eye, this is not a style that fits in with the character of this neighborhood. this proposal might have been ok if it was a starting point by the developer in order to interact with the neighbors and try to address their concerns, but that is not what happened here. they met with a large group of neighbors, who you will hear from tonight, and those neighbors expressed major concerns about the height and bulk of the project. not preserving views, not not having a project at all, but just the height and bulk of the project. in response to that, the developer made no changes. zero. that was a year ago. they came back and met with the neighbors again a few months ago and asked the neighbors to prents their own alternative. the the neighbors said they didn't want to redesign the project, but they did give in response a specific proposal alternative, which you see here. it reduc

every physician recognizes, and pam hyde herself has said your mental health is just as important to your quality of life, as your physical health, if not more. and when go to the doctor with appendicitis or a broken bone, you will be cared for the same way, with compassion. beyond that, physicians will be trained -- what a revelation, that they're actually trained and treating the whole person, not just from the neck down -- so that we can correctly identify that a broken bone as a result of a drinking binge is as much a symptom as it is a stand-alone health issue. so that's where the work goes on. and when i look in this room, i see that we're ready to roll up our sleeves and get the job done. jim and i asked you here today to kick off a new set of parity hearings as he talked about, and we're going to wrap them up a year from now at the john f. kennedy library to mark the 50th anniversary of president kennedy's signing of the community mental health services act. so all these hearings that you're going to organize will build to that momentum so that we can look back at the last 50

you can see the building on- street -- on hyde street, they will be looking at a wall. that is the most significant impact, but you are also hearing from the neighbors this is a neighborhood. it is people who live together. they really believe if you come together and have a design that works but also maintains some respect for the height of the adjacent buildings and allows some air for the height. >> i understand, but it looks as though you are doing -- you are bringing it well below the unit to the east, so they are not going to see their walled but the existing wall. they should be able to go at least as high-en as the next building to them. >> that is much lower. >> they are already seeing those walls, and if they look far enough they are already seeing a 56-foot wall but at a distance. good >> i will tell you what the neighbors have told me, that most of this light comes from this direction, so the way it has been described is the bad distance from the wall allows a lot of leg to get in. if you're moving it against the wall it does have a dramatic impact. >> thank

the structures are planned at 2323 hyde and 1100 lombard. they were originally built as a single residents. there were subdivided in the late 1930's, and since then have been occupied and operated separately. the permit at issue, i can show the overhead, would require closure and filling of this door and this window. this door is the only access to the exterior of this home from the permit's west side. it is a very large home, over 8500 square feet, and this is the only exit door from the interior of the home. by granting this fire will permit, you essentially are eliminating an emergency exit from this side of the house. the other door being shown is a mechanical service door. part of the reason we have a ceqa appeal on file is that the building permit for the fire well shows only this door and this window has been impacted on the 2323-building, but the overall plan is filed with a very supplication at the planning department. it shows closure of all these other shaded windows. my understanding is that that was not part of the consideration

i need to concur with commissioner hyde and the importance of community outreach. our organization represents that part of the city, as other organizations do as well in that area. i know if you reach out to officer boyle in northern station and officer torres of the tenderloin station you'll get a list of those groups. our organization meets the second monday of each month at the public library. i know commissioner lee often attends our meetings. we have a lot of project sponsors that come and speak. nicholas attended one of our meetings as well. we have a lot of folks from the entertainment industry at the meetings. >> and your group? i'm sorry. >> the community leadership alliance. we actually had our meeting on monday and we had a pretty good turnout with alcoholic beverage control as a speaker. we've never been notified about this particular business. >> right. >> and there's actually three groups in our area. we represent -- we work a lot on polk corridor, which we're trying to schedule a meeting with the captain for the clubs, a mediation meeting with the po

he's pointing to the plans of the hyde park. he was quite a passable architect. once he became president, he was able to build a lot more. even though henry loose was generally opposed to roosevelt. we ran a double page on his to show how the work he had done. i couldn't get it all on my standards. in the west, you would see without the new deal projects, the republican voting sun belt cities wouldn't exist. they were built at that time. so, it's as i say. there was at least a dozen agencies that left remnants. i am going to give you a primer on all of these. the premise was to put people to work. there were agencies that covered all of these. the land had been ruinned by a variety of things. this is one of the posters and these are archival photographs. this shows the ccc boys. many of them had been riding the rails. they were starving. they were illiterate. here they are in one of the camps, which were run by the army and it was like a military organization. they were out in the wilderness. you could leave if you wanted to. this was a civilian conservation core
