at a chat with general hyten, the conversation was very much about let's get things done, let's don't keep changing what we are getting planned to do. let's make sure that we execute on time and that we do that across the board with the right kind of capabilities. the next piece in the, i do the mid-and the far. in the mid-of those capabilities should look more like the part that does the near. we can't afford to just build a shinier version of what we got right now so got to think about what has to be in that midterm. i think the investment has been incredible and air force leadership hasn't put a lot of time and energy into it. my marching orders from the chief and from general hyten and i'm sure the secretary after brief chat with her, it will make this thing affordable, make sure we don't break the bank, ever get the right capabilities on time with the right kind of enabling capabilities in the right kind of people. i think we're on track to do that and there will be some tweaks going forward. >> i want to thank you all. we're happy to give you this wonderful -- we have it in a tu

i'm going to refer again to a remarkably good speech in my opinion that general hyten gave a few weeks ago. he pointed out that if we went to war today, we would win. the adversary no -- they know that we would win. we know it. our job is to make sure that the statement stays true in coming generations. so when it is literally the case that self-declared adversaries, and let me point out, the united states doesn't wish to have adversaries. others declare themselves to be our adversaries. when they have done literally dozens of tests that we have not done, that is a concern. we need to respond. we did the groundbreaking research. they've chosen to weapon nice it. we need to respond. when a foreign president takes to the television to talk about a new system that they have in development, i believe we need to take that very seriously. in response to the earlier question, they don't seem to care what we think. so i think we need to take that very seriously, and we are. and referring to the stop start nature of hypersonic research in the united states, it has been stop-start. i think that
