i thought, should i send this? i'm being presumptuous saying you have to write this book to get to the next which will be better. i thought, we are writers, we know how it is i can send this. so what if she doesn't talk to me for a year she will get over it. i sent it. within an hour an e mail came back and all it was was, you are right. she finished the next one. the bulk of the first draft in 6 months. so, you know, i mean, who knows. so i felt this way to a large extent. it was not easy it was hard in a lot of ways because of the culture and the story and because of getting it right but i thought it helped me as a writer. so i will sip not gin and read a section and i will throw it open and see if you can ask me something that you might be interested in instead of hearing me speak. whoa has read this book? do i need to explain? no. [laughter] i was -- i had written, 3 quarters of the book and i was getting tired of only seeing from the point of view of steven. sometimes you get bored with your own character and

you know, i really felt like i had everything and i did. but strangely when i was writing one particular mystery novel called "the rome affair," i had a couple in the belmont police station and the cops are going back and forth and they're saying to the husband, do you know what your wife husband is saying she said she pushed you down to the edge. do you know what he's saying down there and so they're trying to turn them against each other but i was concerned i was channeling law and order or anything. i didn't really know a lot about forced confessions so i called the cathy o'daniel and i didn't know her well at the time but i knew she was a criminal defense lawyer, a very good one. and i said, hey, do forced confession it is ever happen? and she said, oh, honey, they happen all the time and then she said, here's my recent favorite on that, though. i was in 26 and cal, the lockup division, the maximum security. the inmates call it super max. she was there to see a client. on the way out, the client got taken first back to his deck and the

[applause] >> there are actually 37 candidate. you would make a great 38. let's go. who is ready for this weekend? are we already for this weekend? i want to tell you how proud i am a san francisco, and how proud i am of our tolerance, a diversity, shared san francisco values. i am so proud to represent the board of supervisors of harvey milk once served on. i am so proud to be part of the city that comes together all the time, but in particular comes together in the month of june to celebrate our specialness as a community. like many of you here, i did not grow up in san francisco. i grew up in another part of the country that was not quite as tolerant or reverse. san francisco drew me as it your all of us because we live in a very special place. i want to say on behalf of the board of supervisors, we have a special responsibility and leadership role in the world. as we come together, we symbolize all

i came here years ago, and i am is still here. i know that someday i will say goodbye. i am getting up in age but i have tried to do my best, and i will continue to do my best. this is one of the greatest cities i have lived in. my life span has been very long. and i have lived so many years in this great city among these great people. i have served our nation very well. and i will do so until i leave this world. i was honored when i have the invitation to be here tonight, and this is one of my highest honors. and i will never forget. this has been great. i have tried to do my best. and i hope to live long enough to continue my up till climb to help the youth. we live in a time when they need this very badly. and for 10 years, -- we have been trying to do this with recorded history, and -- we have a bright young man and young ladies, and i think that they need our help. in my age, with the time i have left, plot -- on this planet, i will try to get them to stay away from the things that will destroy them. i will get the city behind me, and in a few more days we will hav

i worked there for 19 years, until i got laid off, and i found a new calling in health care services. currently, i am a full-time healthcare provider, in addition to working part-time. being a tenderloin resident for a long time has given me a different perspective of our committee and of the residence in it. our community needs change, but we want this change to address our needs. we want to stay in our neighborhood, and it is only the preservation of affordable housing and to create economic opportunities for lower-income families and their residents by making economic development work for our salma and tenderloin communities that this goal will be realized. one of which is to ensure the employment has entry-level jobs and are made available to our residents. the second is to create new programs for the kids. third, encourage companies who were looking at the midmarket to have internship programs and summer jobs for our kids. also, cleaning up and the safety of our residents are some of the concerns i will advocate in the community. thank you so much, supervisors. supervisor kim: th
