then i went back to some of the files where i wasn't sure whether i had desks, -- well, i thought i had done his desks but i knew i had done it holding the shelf, which was a famous picture. then there were some new people i wanted to add. i particularly wanted to photograph ann petrie because i'd been hearing so much about her. every time i went to hear skip gates talk, he would talk about this book called "the streak" that was written in the 1940's by ann petrie. so i went to the bookstore, found the book, found out who her agent was, called her agent and her agent called her and before i knew it i was driving to old saybrook and taking that picture of her. and we've stayed in touch a lot, and that's been a huge pleasure. in that picture of her, i wish that there had been a way in the book to even tell more about what was going on, but up on that shelf you see a mannequin's head with a hat on it and that is because she grew up the daughter of a pharmacist and she went to pharmacy school, and was working in the pharmacy and then started writing, and submitted a book of hers to a hought

i feel like i know so much more than before i started campaigning. i am a good liberal democrat. in the san francisco, miniature spectrum, i am considered pretty middle of the road. one thing about me is i am very independent when it comes to the issues, and i do not vote on party lines. i judge each issue on its merit. we have provided woefully inadequate support for our transition-age youth, and when we do not provide that support, we end up causing other problems. it is not like it disappears. these are our youth, who are here in our community, and we need to make sure we are providing services for them. yesterday, we had a hearing on the dcyf budget, and i was very disappointed with one aspect of the budget, particularly the alt and backs were being eliminated -- that all add-backs were being eliminated on a number of different subjects. i do not agree with that. i am in discussions with dcyf, and i am is hopeful we will be able to work something out. my predecessor was always committed to making sure funding occurred, and i will continue to do that, so you have an ally in me

well i -- i threw my first outside party when i was 21 and met the owner of bimbo's. pictures of frank sinatra and glen campbell and i said, what is this place? he was telling me, my place was the place where everybody would go to see big-name entertainers. that kind of inspired me. through my course of my career, and promoting, i felt that the only way to reach salable of any promoter is to own a nightclub. as you know, a lot of the city places are owned by former promoters of san francisco. what happened is, i built a business plan, the trucadero nightclub. a sister club of studio 54. the owner -- the neighborhood wanted to shut it down. abc and the police wanted to shut it down. the guy was definitely on his last leg. he asked me to propose something to put to renovate this club. first i thought it was a great idea. at the same idea it became the glass cat. i was happy to keep it going. that club has been there since 1977. we have been there 12 years and we remodeled to go another 10 or 12 years. that said, a lot of problems come with a club like that. neighborhood
