so i was in, i was in that prison for the first 40 years of my life until i was able to wake up and get out of that prison. and realize who i really am. ..

i am able to be myself and get along. it helps me get a long with girls and not fight and argue. i am able to concentrate on myself and growing as a person. mission girls is my home and family. do not cut off mission girls. [applause] supervisor campos: thank you very much. very powerful comments. i do not know if anyone wants to respond. we see that there are so many programs, whether it is after- school programs, programs that do work throughout the day and weekends, summer programs -- they are keeping kids busy doing things to help the committee. how do we keep those programs going? we have fiphil ginsberg, from parks and recreation. >> i encourage all families to please participate in our recreation programs, facilities, and summer camps. we have a tremendous amount of programs. even in tough budget times, we have been working with agencies to figure out how to continue to provide programming for our kids. even though summer school programs have been cut short, we have expanded our summer camps. they are available to anybody regardless of ability to pay. i am the father of two

i was able to identify midlevel managers who were women. they were all there for many years, but they just were not invited to become part of management in an open way. i'm here to say to you that a lot of fire successes -- a lot of our successes reflect efforts made in the past. i do not think they were too difficult to make one to focus on them. a lot of that also had to do with the enthusiasm that the city has brought to making those goals are real. a lot of that enthusiasm came from the women's summits in san francisco. the one that i remember i did not even get a ticket to because it was so crowded. it's the one mayer brown introduced to the city when he revived the mayor's some -- when he revived the women's summit. i knew there would be a lot of things that came out of that. those of you in those days, you were fighting for those tickets. i just gave up and said what do i have to do. as we looked at the videotapes and the press events that followed, we were blessed with a lot of great insights. the encouragement from women of interna

i was able to get additional information on that and that information made me even more concerned. if i quoted to you last week there were 31,131 units recorded housing in san francisco, that stands in stark contrast to a we had in the year 2000 where 16,827 units were reported vacant. an increase in vacancies from 4.8% in 2002 8.3% in 2010. -- 4.8% in 2000, 8.3% in 2010. we are creating a theoretical additional vacancies. i'm not saying it do not approve, but i would like to see something not how i look at the vacancy and what opportunities there are and what challenges are posed to us in decision making. with respect to what i heard from public comment a few minutes ago, i sit on the treasure island citizen advisory. this group, together, tried to find information, what input structure financing district means. there is not a route -- there might be some experts who know something about it, but it's an uncharted tool from what i understand in the state of california. i think florida has practiced it and i am really not repeating any knowledge, repeating what i have been able to ga

i have not been able to buy a fast pass for my son for this month. the reason i have not been able to afford a fast pass is i live in public housing and have an older son who works. my rent right now is almost $1,300 a month. when not to ask that you pass these free fast passes. we are tired of empty promises. it is really important that our actions speak louder than promises. i think it is important that we think about the students that are not just in public schools, but private schools. a lot of them are low income. they have gotten scholarships to attend these schools. there are a lot of people who have more resources, and the cannot imagine what poverty is really like when you cannot even buy a gallon of milk. it is really important that we get these fast passes. our use of getting punished. police are ticketing them. they are causing students to miss school. they are ticket and parents. there is not that consciousness about what is making it so people cannot pay, so that students miss school, and what we can do to prevent these things from happe

i want to be able to point out to you that i have been working in this district for the last 14 years, and i appreciate that the former supervisor is here because he should know firsthand what it is like to be able to walk on golden gate on monday morning and smell the fresh urine and feces all over the streets in that district. i know that our new supervisor has just come into the district, and we are hoping that a lot of changes will be coming. we are very much in support. all of our members joining us today are unemployed. [speaking spanish] they have been on the bench the last year-and-a-half. eight years to have 22 janitors. it is now down to only three and a half janitors. at one south van ness, we are in a huge fight. yesterday, we completed our 60 days of being there on the line. i have not seen an uproar of people about how so many families are becoming unemployed. when bank of america laid off 22 of our janitors, there was not a hearing on it. in 39 the market lost 17 janitors. there was not a hearing about it. our supervisor was not doing anything about it. i'm here because

i can tell you what, as a result of this conference i was able to further advance. the use of my community can grow up someday to be greater than who i am. if they have me entering them, sky is not even their lead. i hope to see the rest of you at the summit. but i was able to describe his situation. one of the big places i got information about her was here at our pima medical examiner's office. i went to visit dr. bruce parks who does the autopsies and i was able to obtain through a public records requests all the information in her autopsy file, and to read those autopsy files is heartbreaking. it details every garment that little girl had on. she had on a little bracelet. she had on a black jacket with a silky pink lining. she had on a pair of sweatpants that said hollywood. they are called but pants and that was one of the way she was identified, because the people who knew that she was out there who were looking for her new that. so, gathering together and i have to tell you that was very heartwrenching for me just emotionally, reading about her effects. this is a child that died right here in our state. so to put that story together, i try to imagine and really it is the only story my book in which i kind of had to imagine and didn't just rely on people telling me. i found t
