i am not a parent. but i see and am anxious to work with the youth commission around some of the issues in my life. i believe the new generations to have a clear vision of what is coming and how to make things better, often. i am just going to say a bit about the milk club. i am their outreach coordinator and got them to join the alliance to save lives, to help advocate, another example of integrating in the fabric of the neighborhood. this year, i won the simeon white volunteer of the year award. it just proves that if you work harder, if you are more focused, and if you really concentrate on what it is you have a hand to accomplish, people do see that. they respond and are thankful. that is a great thing to be able to contribute to something like the harvey milk club. i also want to talk a little bit about my involvement in street fairs for the past six years. i have run several sections in the world of wonderment in the castro street fair, which is a community-based section of the fair. one of the rea

i am a resident of district 6. i live a couple of blocks north of market street in a heavily populated homeless populated area. it was interesting to hear that most of the empty shelter beds are in bay view. sounds to me like they need to find a facility smaller there and rent something north of market that a small facility, put a few more beds there. what we basically have here is a system akin to segregation. irregardless of the number of beds empty and what have you and care not cash. it is a done deal as far as i am concerned. akin to segregation, we have unequal access which is inequality in a city supposedly devoted to equality. according to the figures that i heard today, you know, let's additional homeless pele sleep indoors every night and protects all housing funded by g.a. when it comes to the seniors, disabled, vets, then i think that it passes a line. it is not just unfair at that point, it is inhumane. and just because we passed care not cash does not mean that we can't do remedial work on that. so, i

i am going to speak on behalf of victor nelson. he was an advocate for a year in 2010 with our program, and i facilitate the program. participants once a week do door knocking and sro hotels throughout the mission district and learn about san francisco tenant laws and the general case management skills and then do counseling with sri attendance throughout the mission district. i worked with victor for a year doing that. his experience living in an sro and being a case manager and having a background in social work and being a tenant advocate, he was an excellent participant in my program. he was able to guide tenants through the process, whether they had bedbugs, illegal eviction issues, or questions around ssi. he was able to work with tenants are given the right direction where they should go for assistance. he was recently asked to be in the urban habitat boards and commissions leadership institute. but specifically is urban habitat's way of culling leaders from communities of color and low income people and saying we want to giv

i am going to see now if eva pirring is here now. >> hello, everyone. my name is eva pirring, the represented -- [unintelligible] i have lived in the tenderloin for 23 years and have been married for 21 years. i have raised four children, one of whom used to be a foster child and is now under my guardianship. the ages of my children are 20, 19, 18, and nine years old. two of my children are attending universities, and one is attending a beauty school. one is a fifth grader. all my children have been raised in the tenderloin area. i am an active member of the tenderloin filipino-american community, and a fundraiser manager at the street barnabas church. my past job was working in a bank. i worked there for 19 years, until i got laid off, and i found a new calling in health care services. currently, i am a full-time healthcare provider, in addition to working part-time. being a tenderloin resident for a long time has given me a different perspective of our committee and of the residence in it. our community needs change, but we want this change to address
