i am a district 11 president. i take care of my elderly mother and an active with the filipino community center. i worked as a janitor. even though i work hard, it can be a struggle to survive in the city. i have experienced wage theft. i have not gotten paid for all the hours i have worked. there are other workers who do not know their rights, janitors, care givers, domestic workers, day laborers, and health care workers. it is also very difficult for people in my community to find jobs. it took me about three months to find a job. some of my friends have been out of work for almost a year. sometimes, there are labor -- language barriers. often, there is little or no help. i think it is important we improve services in district 11 and other parts of the city where there is a diverse population. whinnied support that can address the needs of immigrants, use -- youth, and workers. thank you. >> good afternoon. i am here in support of advancing language access. i am an individual who grew up with parents who do not s

i think it is -- i am in favor of the 8 washington project. i think it is a good use of valuable land. it clearly has attractive financial benefits to the city and to the port, regardless of how the funding is divvied up between those two entities. over $10 million for affordable housing, more than twice that amount in direct fees and payments. the $50 million of ifd funds, again, depending on the timeframe you choose. but substantial in any case. increased parking, and incremental tax revenue from businesses and residents, plus, badly needed jobs. in the context of a port operating budget at $90 million a year, this is significant revenue. it is money the port badly needs for waterford -- waterfront improvements. and in the context of the city budget, there never seems to be enough. if the city portion of these funds should make a meaningful difference. finally, it seems unlikely that there are alternative uses, that this land can generate these kinds of returns. and we do not have to wait for years and years to recognize this revenue. i urge

i am filling in tonight. >> good evening superintendent carlos garcia and commissioners, i am part of the parent advisory committee. i have two children that attend the district. i am a member of the advisory council program. >> i staff the current advisory council. i know of the parent of a student because she is graduating tomorrow night. we are going to share this report and talk a little bit about the process of the community process about restorative practices. gloria is going to talk about who we heard from. from 2006 to 2011, they led dozens of conversations, most of them focused on issues of equality. we heard many parents talk about and share their concern about bullying, the lack of communication with schools, and unfair and disciplinary practices. many families expressed urgency and a need for improving and the environment. it has been clear that most families don't know that was passed in 2009 as a way to embrace justice to improve climate and address the disproportionately higher rates of suspension for african- american and latino students. restorative practices should b

i am here to ask about waivers as well. han one week after it was announced that transitional kindergarten would not be offered at all, my husband and i wrote a letter which we hand- delivered to the district offices, asking to have our situation looked at and request a waiver. basically saying, my kid is ready for kindergarten. i understand the changes, but an arbitrary cut off does not define the kid. some kids at five years old are not quite ready for kindergarten. my kid is. i am not saying she's a genius, but she is academically ready. and we brought in the academic request for a waiver, we got no response. about a week later, a group of families came in to talk about this. we brought the same letter and a letter from our child's preschool and pediatrician stating that she is ready. no response. supervisor campos: thank you. next speaker, please. >> i am here again with my children to say that this t.k. option does not work for us because i do not have a way to dispatch my kids in the morning to four different places. i
