i am here in support of local hire. i myself in the past have worked in construction, but i got out of the trains because of the lack of work. i do different work now, but i know plenty of people who have not been able to do that. they have not had the opportunity. they have not been blessed to transition. this is not about pitting worker against worker. for some unions to say that citybuild or ycd or abu are taking all the jobs from them is totally untrue and false. the fact is that because of the reports ms. lester did, 80% of the work is going to people outside of san francisco. that is not fair. we are talking about a fair distribution of the work between san francisco construction workers -- construction workers between san francisco and those who live outside of the city. this would make all of the difference in the world for our construction work force. i know plenty of people that are out of work, and journeymen and apprentices. we really support this. i think it will make a big difference for the people in bayvi

and i am actually here to support this project. i found it down deeply in my heart to come here today because as most of you know, in the schools, we are getting cut back every day. we do not have any more music programs in a lot of our schools, or dance classes, or culture classes that a lot of us in the community fought for for many years in the public schools. and we now have an opportunity to work with an organization and an entrepreneur in our community to begin to teach latinos, african-americans, and all children in our neighborhood about jazz. i think some of you know the latin jazz youth ensemble, which was started out of the mission cultural center. you have seen the success of them, picante, and other groups that have come out of the mission culture center. i think this institution that is being proposed will create a complement and also a big need in our community. i find it very interesting that is used to be a funeral home. for those of you who are not familiar with the site. and then it became an educational instituti

i am very happy to be here. i am dorothy chandler. i am the property manager for the building where the proposed restaurant is located. q the owner. i have managed the property for many years, and this is a very unique situation for us. handicapped person threatened to sue the owner because of one step. this building is over 100 years old. we have a retail store that recently was the target for a lawsuit. the only way to free the honor from a lawsuit was to lower the entire floor by one floods. it cost over $100,000 to complete this project. we started screening prospective tenants as soon as construction began. that was five months ago. over 50 tents called and we screened every one of them carefully. we wanted to find the best one that was compatible with the people and the building as well as the neighborhood. the most enthusiastic people were food service people. because the menu was unique and we felt that they were enthusiastic, hard-working, responsible, and cooperatives. the restaurant will be quiet and clean. we have more th

i am here as a resident of district 6, and certainly, i really think that agnes would bring that voice that is needed in the san francisco redevelopment agency commission. i'm glad the president is here because i have both shared the benefits and advantages of the rapid growth south of market. also, i want to share that my first job was in the south of market in 1981, so i have seen the growth of the area and have been to several commission meetings in support or against many of the policy decisions that have been made to the redevelopment commission. agnes brings that needed voice and the change in the redevelopment agency, not just as a filipino woman, but also as a mother and a daughter and a resident of san francisco -- not just as a filipina woman. her work at the social responsibility group in a fortune 100 company is very important to bring to the table, but most important is her voice as community organizer, representing many neighborhoods and bringing different perspectives to the table i think is very important. bringing a diverse group of stakeholders and many perspectives i
