a lot of downside in the equity ies still too. maria: and we do get more economic data next week as well as more first-quarter earnings, they have been fixed dagen mcdowell, your take on where we are this morning. dagen: i think i'm paying attention to the cash crunch that's happening in particular retail and other industries across the country. i know that gap has said that it has burned through half of its cash on hand and it's going to need to raise money to fund operations for this year and one after another it's reported potential bankruptcy filings from even a nieman marcus and then we talked about lord&taylor and jcpenney, we are looking at jobs that will be destroyed forever potentially and i think that retail was kind of an obvious point of concern, but you will need to watch industries around -- across the country, even oil of how many of those jobs will go away because that's the difference between a lot of short-term pain but something much longer and more protracted economic crisis. maria: just this week we saw all of those

i think you'll see that accelerate over time. maria: i see.l quick on gm, fighting to keep cash, mark, the company suspended its quarterly stock dividend and buyback in an effort to preserve capital after your former company, ford, did the same. both companies suspending their 2020 earnings guidance in march. your reaction? good idea here to suspend a dividend to raise cash in this critical moment? >> well, i think job number one in the auto industry right now is protecting liquidity and i think the actions that you see gm take which you just went through, they're playing a little bit of catchup to some of the other automakers that have done that. i think it really -- it speaks to the issue that there's no visibility on sales and revenue going forward, so they're going to protect that liquidity. i think they're probably like every automaker going to be looking at their technology investments. they're going to prioritize their new product launches and for some of their future technologies, whether it's autonomous or otherwise. they're going to

i can't even get my head around it. maria are off tone but, erin, there are also issues here that are coming up that will be with us for a long time, so, i mean, do you see long-term implications from this shutdown and this pandemic? we know that going into this as dagen said, some of them were off tone and certainly in the middle of a pandemic, they -- that certainly seems to be that, but longer term, what changes to retail are you expecting to stick? >> well, i mean, get used to ppp. once the stores reopen you will still be wearing protective gear and associates will be wearing protective gear in stores. we have 2 to 3 square feet of retail square feet per person in europe and 8 to 10 square feet in the united states. expect the footprints to be cut down 30, 40, 50% in the coming year, so it's just going to happen really quickly, and then note that part of the reason that some of the retailers are so off tone right now is because they simply don't have anybody in their office updating their websites or apps or anything. the

so i thought, you know, it was really awesome. mariad given out $23 billion in a year, now they're asked to give $350 billion out in three weeks. so i get that, being overwhelmed. but did you use a large bank or community bank or what? smaller or larger, lisa? >> no, i used a community bank. they had a relationship with the sba in the past and so i actually called the bank that i normally use and they were going to have to get a portal ready which they did have by monday but i was just concerned because i'm very payroll-heavy in my business because i have all professionals and therapists and the most important thing for me was for them to keep working. a lot of them have school loans and so i wanted to keep them working full-time. so i called another community bank and they had that sba relationship and so it was not difficult at all. maria: do you -- are you comfortable with the way it's made up where 75% of the money has to go right to your employees and 25% to use elsewhere, like rent, et cetera, business expenses, because we've been
