i did not know who that was. they have given up my information and i've done myself in jail again for a crime i did not commit. this time i said, hell no, i am suing everybody. the police, the state of new york. the public defender came to me -- this is the craziest part of the situation. the public defender who is there to defend your constitutional rights -- she came in to see me with plastic cause and a surgical mask. i saw her walking around with all the rest of the brothers. i thought maybe she had something that she did not want to give us. [laughter] that is righteous. i respect that. whenever you have to do. then she got me into the interrogation room and she said to me, you say you have education. where did you go to school, high school? public-school of new york. this does that add up. i skipped two grades before college. where did you go to college? how did you pay for college? you went to grad school? how did you pay for law school? what did that have to do with my case? i was just going with the flow.

but i also could not find any way around it. i guess i was wondering if there was a chance for a continuance and a possibility for something that would be within your budgetary constraints and still get you something usable. i do not know what everybody would think about a continuance. vice president garcia: i would certainly favor a continuance. i am not sure it makes a difference. the zoning administrator is scott sanchez. we have great minds to work on this. i would suspect they also think this is a worthwhile project that would add to the value of this house and the enjoyment of your property and the safety of your child. i someone agree that it seems kafkaesque and does not totally make sense. i would favor the suggestion made by commissioner peterson. that is offering you perhaps false hope. sit down and have a conversation. mr. sanchez and mr. sider -- you might walk away with them saying they would love to help you but cannot. that is the sentiment of this board. we would love to help you, but we can't. commissioner fung:

i tried not to worry about it, but i said, i do not want to make a mistake because this is international and everyone wants to feel welcome, that they are involved. but as a mayor, you have to worry about many things. so i go to sleep tired, my notes are in front of me. i have to read my details and be prepared. it looks like sometimes i'm having fun, but in the back, my staff is working hard to prepare me, making sure i understand everything. it is not just making mistakes. it is doing the right thing and making sure it is the right way to do it. i compare myself to the other mayors in other cities. i went back to the conference of mayors and i asked mayor bloomberg of new york. how did you do this over 10 years? these mayors, they have really been helpful. willie brown has been helpful in giving me advice about things that i did not have. i have had some private conversations with people about how to do things. that is part of my were read. i also enjoyed a lot of support from people because they want me to be successful. they know i am open to honest dialogue. whatever advice they giv

i was hoping i would not have to say this, but i do. one person is missing from this hearing, a person that is very influential of what is going on in parkmerced. i do not think it is necessary for me to say that person's name. i think everyone knows that person's name. district 7. that is all. i think it is only proper and correct to have that person say what they want to say in regards to parkmerced. a hearing without that input, i think, is a serious deficiency. in the future, that should be addressed. just like in item one, regarding the gift fund at laguna honda hospital. when i keep researching, looking for comments from that person, i find nothing. i think, in a certain sense, that is not doing your job. laguna honda is in your district, so is parkmerced, but we nothing from that person in regard to that. i think you are shortchanging the citizens of san francisco. when you have that much influence on those two important institutions of the city, and you are not present to offer any comment -- because, ideally, you should be sayi

i did not have a strong interest. working as an organizer, you get to know issues surrounding budget for schools or housing, and i began to see people were really accessible and some had started working with the community and we got more and more engaged. >> where do you place yourself on the political spectrum? supervisor kim: i think i definitely fall on the left. >> was there anything surprising about the campaign process? supervisor kim: it was my third campaign running for office. i ran for the school board twice before. in many ways, i was already -- i already knew what i had signed myself up for. it was physically grueling, emotionally grueling, really tiring. the one thing i enjoyed was i got to know voters and residents. you do not really get to do that when you run citywide. i enjoyed campaigning more because i had time to meet voters individually, and i loved it. i really enjoyed being out on the field. i spent all lot of time doing it. which i thought was important -- both for me because i get a deeper unde

i do not write content, i do not right product. i do news reporting. i do not write material to put ads around. there are some assumptions coming from this gathering that i find troubling. many years ago, upton sinclair wrote a classical study of journalism. he said that the advertising model does not work. clearly, it does work, but the main thing that is missing from what everyone has been talking about so far is the consumer. when i read long form of journalism, which i write, i print it out. when i mounted an investigation of the region's last year of california, i collected about $7,000 from individuals and parlayed it into six print journeys, seven weeklies. got a lot of national coverage. it made some difference in people's lives, but i did not take a dime from any corporation. ok? so let's talk about how we go back to the model where people who need investigation, news -- because my duty is not to reflect corporations. let us not be proud that we are moving forward because we do not have journalist unions anymore. that's going back to selling t
