in 2021, i will not be running as candidate for the cdu again, and i will not be running as a candidate for the lower house. anyll not be taking on other political positions either. for the rest of this parliamentary term, i am prepared to continue to serve as means that and that to a large extent, i am turning away from what i had always said , which is that the chair of the party and chancellorship should go together. this is a bit of a risk, but i think it is a risk i should take and want to take. run as chancellor again, then i would not have taken this decision, but i don't. with this decision, i am trying to contribute to making it possible for the german government to finally focus on good governance, and that is what people are quite right in calling for. my intention is based on the attention of the german government to carry out an evaluation of its work, cdu, thisand spd have agreed to and their coalition agreement. my party will be able to elect a new party chair as well as put together a new party program and will be able to focus on the time that will come after i lay down
