i wanted to just touch on the pathway to services. when you said during business hours, monday through friday, mental health provider is available for adult clients to provide support and advocacy. i was just wondering if you have any, this isn't convenient for people. i'm just going to say. you have to take time off from work, this is an emotional experience. to be able to do this and go back to work and function at a capacity in work is not realistic. for those of us who have had therapy we know it's draining. it's draining before you go, it's draining after you participate. i'm wondering, do you have any plans to expand this to weekend or after hours? i wanted to know do you provide any kind of child carat all? -- care at all? because just during business hours monday through friday is actually, i don't think as accommodating as probably we would need to be. and correct me if i'm wrong. i'm just assuming. >> i couldn't agree with you more. what's happening here is that monday to friday when we have the trauma recovery center over, w

i want to start with the positive things i've sensed from the principal. i think she has a heart for improving education and works hard in that domain. she cares about parent participation and community involvement. i've appreciated her commitment to academics and desire for parent participation. however these positive desires and commitment have not translated into a good learning and teaching environment for the students and school. as much as she talks about community, i've been disappointed with the sense of community we have in our school. there's been a lack of coheegs amongst the administration and staff for the past three years which have negatively impacted the sense of community and energy in the school. i've seen many of our really good teachers leave or not have their contract renewed because of this issue. as a concrete example last year my son and i were very disappointed to hear that his second grade teachers and the kindergarten teacher's contract were not being renewed. guadalupe is not just my kids' school, but it's also my neighborhood sc

and i know you carry that and i just want to say i appreciate the hard work you have done and just want to get on the record that's important to me as i know it is to you. commissioner yee, did you want to say something? >> supervisor yee: just quickly. thank you for meeting with me yesterday. even though it was accidental. [chuckles] inside joke. i'm just curious. have there been discussions whether or not you would support to have a discussion around implementing a program to maybe have a robust water taxi sort of system? >> yes. we know that san francisco is third in the world in congestion. and 20%, and i'm glad you mentioned, 20% of people who go to the giants game come through the ferry, we are using ferries and more water taxis because we have over 6 million people a year that use ferries in san francisco and we want to take a lot of that congestion off the embarcadero, the giants and all of our partners in the port have been supportive of using ferries and water taxis. it's like a bottleneck and we want to free that up. if people would take alternative measures there wouldn't be

i had a couple suggestions that i just wanted to offer. ne is, i share the call in concern with lyft and Über driving fast because they have incentive to, financially, for their work. and my suggestion would be maybe to start a conversation with those companies around providing maybe some kind of incentive for their workers to drive a little safer. i know that lyft and Über drivers do not make a huge salary and so maybe some kind of incentive would help with that. the other suggestion that i had was possibly working with the dmv and their educational program they have. as someone who has gotten a driver's license, there was not a great amount of information given to drivers about people with disabilities. and the different kinds of disabilities you might come across when you're driving. and so i think maybe having a conversation with the department of motor vehicles could be beneficial for the issue. and lastly, i wanted to bring to the attention of the people here, the idea of adding more crossing lights. i've seen a lot more crossing ligh

i just want to let you know that. that's all i have. thank you. >> thank you. >> good afternoon, supervisors, my name is paul, i'm a resident of san francisco, since 1993. i'm a district 6 registered voter, a homeowner, a retail business owner with head offices within the proposed lgbtq leather district. in the late 1980s i experienced a unique and vibrant leather culture of soma. this magical city drew me in to make san francisco my permanent home. more importantly, as an officer, i'm here on behalf of the association of professional services, the association of piercers is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to dissemination of health on body piercings. we represent millions around the world, in an industry estimated to be $1 billion annually. i'm the founder and chair of the body piercing archive, we collect the material involving histories of body piercing. to ensure the artifacts are available to generations. having lectured, as well as written articles for periodicals since the mid 1990s, i'm considered to be the lea

i want to say this is estimate. we're still -- i believe it is close enough to share with you and i think the theme is accurate, we are under-spending on homeless youth. they make up 18% of the homeless population, but the direct expenditures to serve them is only 5%. homeless youth are able to serve, 18-24-year-olds can use the adult system, but they're not well represented in that system and this is an area of important public policy decision the city needs to make. and appreciate the attention some of you have given to this issue in recent years. i think just also want to thank my staff and many other people we have brought in a bunch of new resources. know our budget is large, but i want to point out much of it comes from other sources. and since we formed as a department, we've brought in $17 million of new state funds, $13 million of federal funding. $20 million general obligation bond funding for upgrading some of our shelter and opening up a new resource center. and then in partnership with philanthropy have

[applause] >> thank you. thank you for sharing your stories. and to the other members of our amazing team for your service to the department of public health and the people of puerto rico. and sincere gratitude to the mayor and director garcia and everyone at dph for giving us the opportunity to represent the city and county of san francisco on this important mission. our team spent seven days in puerto rico, working alongside colleagues, a group of four federally qualified health centers based in the northwest part of the island. they're sister clinics to us in many ways. the clinics in san francisco are federally qualified health centers with a mission to serve the most vulnerable members of the community. we each came back from our time with so many stories and image

i want to get that in there because you're not just a pretty face. >> one thing among many. >> i wantto recommend writing books to everyone who wants to have their friends say nice things about them. so far so good. thank you. >> okay, so let's talk about "she caused a riot." why this book at this time? i understand for the introduction this is a timely book. the idea for this book grows out of the pioneer in. the thank you system. can you talk about why she caused a riot? why this book is published right now? >> i was really dead and tricking people into learning and have been for many years. this was a book that i wanted to write for a while. i had written it there. it was about women of history who are lesser known and it got a huge audience. they were commenting throughout thing you have to check out this women and people liked it and for sharing it because it was the way i'd written about history and women's history that was not in any way serious or taking myself too seriously at all. sort of a moralizing from a self-righteous. it was written in internet he language is not reson

>> supervisor safai: i just want to say a few words. i think this is a day that many of us in this chamber will remember. i know this was a struggle for many years. i still don't understand why it's taken as long as it has, but i will say that one of the things that struck me the most -- i mean, there were a lot of things that struck me today that i've been inspired by, but one of the things that really sunk in was the idea that people really do come from all over the united states and all over the world to san francisco to begin anew, to have a place where they can feel safe and have a place where they feel like they can be who they truly are, and to have a man who gave his life for that cause to be named on a terminal, and for that to be a symbol and something that they pass under every time they come into that city, every time we come into this city, and every time we -- even if it's someone that's not partaking in that ritual in that part of their life, i think that's how important it is. and i think this is such an important day. i

i want you to be good managers of your money. at this stage, it is important to know thy self in terms of risk i would like you to think i have more knowledge of what you could tolerate than you do but when you get to your 20s, all i can do is ask you to think what you would do in a sell off. can you accept that stocks go down not a silly question given how they have gone up over time. these are crucial questions that only you can answer. i would likeyou to take more risks. once you have put away that $10,000. i would hate to see you commit more than 20% of your mad money to individual stocks that would not be my preference. as you get older, capture more income by owning more stocks that have more dividends don't be too quick to do so. in fact i would not advise you to do that until your 30s. only in your 40s do i want you to introduce bonds in your portfolio. by this time, you should put enough away. now in the old days it would be heresy the lack of good fixed income alternatives that is why i favor higher yielding stocks than

i wanted people to love me as many. i just wanted to be like this story and dozens of students us everyone else. and and you you think you you found. yeah. we believe in. the case thank you. oh oh i feel ridiculously proud i mean how could you not but. i mean what i'm proud of is him manifesting the him i knew he could be and not about any assistance that he may have gotten from me or anyone else what drives me to want to help william. i think. that there's definitely this sense of being a parental figure in someone's life the way i had wished it to be in mine and there's definitely a sense of of i'm definitely working out stuff for myself by doing. nothing on healthy nothing dysfunctional particularly but i think i think that there's something that's been emotionally. profound emotionally healing for me about doing this. thing going you know will go not even three minutes ago you said that with my name told me about knowing the woman and there. wasn't something us in all of us until somebody was up to no one being. and

i want to thank you for thoughtful consideration. we've been very opposed to the implementation of the weapon but given your choosing to move forward on it we want to see careful consideration in the development of this policy. i want to focus my comments around the special considerations and i'd appreciate it if the body revisited this particular point. basically what the policy is saying in essence you're asking officers to use direction on populations that are in severe danger of death when these are used, pregnant women, the fetus will die, folks on psychiatric medications when interacting with the taser can cause heart failure. we need a higher standard. the original idea is because they're potentially lethal you need that lethal standard before you're using the taser. it's not saying to use a gun, it's saying when you're using this weapon at that higher -- if that's not going to go in terms of compromised language and david's idea is good but in terms of making sure there's no immediate force is used but i want to add to that an

i also want to acknowledge those who spoke before me. i listen and learn and i learn to listen and as a result i practice two principles. i will get right to the point because i don't want the buzzer. people trying to attain housing, employment when low-income residents fall into this kind of debt, it can severely damage their credit which cause employers to refuse to hire, we are asking this committee to eliminate unfair court fees that keeps san francisco in a cycle of poverty. >> thank you, next speaker. >> good afternoon. my name is mary vandergriff. i'm a lobby supervisor, i started as an on-call desk clerk. this bill is not only personal but important to me. i have made mistakes in my life and i have a past, the main thing holding me back at this point is all the court fees i collected. low-income residents are saddled with an unfair amount of debt, i feel i will never get ahead of these fees and also makes it harder, if not impossible for me to get off probation early. i'm a low-income san francisco resident and i demand this commi

i want to be supportive. i don't know if yo you made a motion. >> i serve order the board of directors of a nonprofit for six year also, extremely incredible program. the executive director is one of my heroes. she cares about her workers. and their wages and the clients they serve. i am not going to just, you know, set aside what i heard from debbie and the hsn. it is real. i want to look at that, too. i am committed to working on this. i am committed if we have a week's continuance to figure out how to do this. thank you. >> i had a chance to look at the calendar. maybe we can make an amendment. if the committee would like a week, we can push things around to make it happen. i don't know if we would get all of our workers to the table at thattism time. -- at that particular time we can schedule it. >> i would like it one week. if you would like two weeks, i think the committee can discuss that. >> well, we can keep it to one week. i want to show in good faith that there is conversation. it is not stalled and

i just wanted to thank you all. this issue around our mou and mou programming was very important, especially as it was stated at this moment with heightened islamophobe i can't, targeted surveillance of our students. our students have been targeted for and victims of islamophobe i can here in the bay area. it's important that the school board takes a stand as terrific, as this board of sf unified in supporting our students. so i would underscore again that you please put this mou up for discussion at the next board meeting, and we hope we can get this mou by next year so we hope we can continue to serve our communities. thank you very much.
