tomorrow, the president will be here to do my official swearing in. i think much of the cabinet will be here as well. it's an important day for the president's first trip to this important place. i am looking forward to being there with many of you and having the honor to have the president of the united states do my formal swearing-in. i then will sometime either later this week or beginning of next, do more to develop my commander's intent, what i hope to achieve and speak to the entire workforce and i will lay out my expectations, my hopes and most importantly, share with you my leadership style. this is very different. like, one of the first rules is don't talk down to people. right? i will vote no on bills i do not have a chance to read. on process alone, i cannot stomach the possibility that i don't know what is in this bill and i am supposed to vote for it. we have balanced our budget .very year without governor it is possible, and i will do that as your senator as well. david: a follow-up, you both stated out the claim that you would not vote for omnibus or continuing resolutions in this area. we had a government shutdown. mike lee was one of the leaders of that. it sounds like you will have a shutdown if you cannot a cop was what you have said. that's question one. question two, how do you accomplish a reduction in the deficit without reducing spending for entitlements or defense? is inmuch of the budget those categories, real traction on the deficit can only come with cuts in those areas. governor romney: first, with regards to the government, you don't want to shut down the government. you get a notice 48 hours before a bill gets up or down, and if you don't vote yes on this, the government is going to shut down

i will say it blunter. i see so much political correctness so much talking , about people safe spaces, worrying about hurting someone's feelings, i also see a lack of patriotism. if we are going to meet the challenges we need to make, it is going to take a greater sense of patriotism from young people. again, the energy, the ability you see from young people, is tremendous. that is really our future. >> mr. chairman? ben: i think there's a lot of noise but a lot of things going on underneath which is a very strong country. very diverse country. an example, what has happened -- this is texas, so what happened in energy. 40 years ago, we were worried about running out of oil. now of course, north america is self-sufficient. there is a lot of ability to adapt. there is a lot of ability to make progress. i do think there is a challenge which is putting aside a social issues which are important. i think the progress on artificial intelligence, which could make huge changes in our economy very quickly at some poin

i will add one thing. despite all that, i would say this. i don't think our democracy is going to work. i don't think our political system is going to work, unless we figure out how to have growth be more inclusive. we can't leave so many people behind. we have still big numbers of working age people not working. given the opioid problem, given high levels of incarceration, and given income disparity, i don't think that we are going to be able to continue to fix our political system unless we figure out how to deal with that. again, to me, that -- in part with the debt, as ed said, we will have to deal with the debt. i would also be more optimistic -- i think the debt is a huge problem. but i don't think we need to fix it with a just taxes. i think you can use things like means testing and other things to deal with our biggest problems in terms of health care and social security. terrence: thank you. mr. chairman, we will get into our world, talk about markets. you look at all the recent volatility which is something i deal with everyday. th

>> i guess i will say to get to things. say twoss i will things. public opinion research has long shown there are different opinions about how you define racism and bigotry and conservatives tend to define it differently than liberals. and what we have seen in the data is many conservatives genuinely do not view trump's comments as bigoted. while that may seem strange to many people, there is just a kind of genuine disbelief. that is part of it. a broader conversation is to take place about what is bigotry and racism today? and how does that affect people? and completely unrelated, just my other final comment that i would like to make, by bringing it back to the issue of religion and tolerance, i think over the past maybe decade or so, because of the conflict between the respect for the rights of lgbt people and general civic respect for these individuals, and how that often comes into conflict with religious conscience, that there has been kind of this shift in a demonization and culture war more broadly against organized religion and people of fa
