so i was going back and working -- so world war ii was on and i went back and i was working in a dining hall at the university at $.30 an hour. big jump. one hour would get you breakfast or lunch or dinner, and anything over your three meals you could use that money for anything else. i graduated from missouri in september of 1944, the same day that my mother became a citizen. she was being sworn in out of nevada, so we could not be together. i got a job with united press in indiana. and i liked it, but i wasn't happy at united press. -- i was not happy that united press didn't feel they needed to have to pay me as much as a paid the men, and i've fought that issue with them and i quit because i lost. it was a five dollar a week difference, but i didn't feel like they were being fair. so i went out to lewiston, idaho to work as a night editor. after a very short while there, i decided, this isn't for me. this ain't for me. i wrote to every newspaper in the east coast and told them how good i was. the lewiston courier offered me a job, but not as a reporter. i wanted to be a reporter. i

i worked in the library for a long time. started working the san francisco history centre, i noticed they had the hippie collection. i thought, if they have a hippie collection, they really need to have a punk collection as well. so i talked to the city archivist who is my boss. she was very interested. one of the things that i wanted to get to the library was the avengers collection. this is definitely a valuable poster. because it is petty bone. it has that weird look because it was framed. it had something acid on it and something not acid framing it. we had to bring all of this stuff that had been piling up in my life here and make sure that the important parts of it got archived. it wasn't a big stretch for them to start collecting in the area of punk. we have a lot of great photos and flyers from that area and that. that i could donate myself. from they're, i decided, you know, why not pursue other people and other bands and get them to donate as well? the historic moments in san francisco, punk history, is the sex pis

i was off work for a year and i'm still recovering from that. i'm happy to say, i still ride my bike. it took a number of years to get back on a bike and i'm extremely careful. i ride the embarcadero only on sunday mornings because it's the only time it's safe. i rode home from the ballgame the other day on townsend corridor. and i want to just tell you that, when people get hit, does doesn't take a death. my life changed. i'm still here, but my life changed, family's life changed and everyone around me changed and you have to take that into consideration and you cannot postpone things that are so critical. i don't understand why the embarcadero is such a problem. you have two split lanes. one could be for pedestrians and bikes. the other could be for cars going one direction. it seems to me like a no-brainer. i'm going to amsterdam and copenhagen this summer because they have bike lanes there. if we had bike lanes all over the city, people would come here to ride bikes here. thank you. >> chairman brinkman: thank you very much. next speaker, ple
