we need a new class -- a crosswalk, countdown signals at ocean avenue and i 280 would be of the reach city college. this is scheduled to be completed by late 2012, but i have asked the mta to expedite this for earlier completion. i have spoken to the maintenance and safety issues, but we are also working hard on transforming the balboa park station into a mixed used project focused on development -- on affordable housing. it would further many regional goals related to affordable housing, smart growth and activation of critical public areas. accordingly, a residential development on the site is prioritized in the recent development area planned. i'm asking for a complete report for results and next steps. those steps support a community- led study of potential development sites in the vicinity of the station. president chiu: i would like to respond to our chair's comment. there is a situation where firefighters are receiving packages that are more than their counterparts in other jurisdictions, i do not know which is the more difficult decision. whether to charge a lot more overtime or hire more folks. neither perspective is a good choice. we have to figure out at a time when you're asking every department to share the burden and to fairly shoulder the burden of our budget deficit, how are we going to do it? it is a problem. supervisor campos: i understand the point president chiu is making. from my perspective, we can learn from the private sector. in private sector, if you are a business owner, you try to make sure you have the right level of staffing to reduce your overtime. i think it is complicated given the benefits package here, but i think we need to have that discussion. the fact we are facing a budgetary crisis provides an opportunity for us to do that. >> i am happy to work with you and continue to work with partners in the controller's offic

we expected it would be automatic. i do hope that the panel here can understand that that is what the intent was the amendments that it would happen automatically, that there was a lot of work that has already been done by many people in this room and we are still here. hundreds of people who work on these revenue measures who managed to get the real estate tax increase to pass. that was a monumental effort. i think that this is something that should be recognized. this is a positive vote for replacing the fee. this has been characterized as a onetime solution. it is not. this is the potential to be much more. the increased revenue from the real estate transfer taxes, this will be here year after year. we made decisions about priorities. we fund the entire city and county budget. this includes a wide array of services. of all of those services that we found, $250,000 is about what we would use every year or potentially $500,000 every year. this is what we want to use to replace the fee. i don't think that this is asking

i would request that if there are in reports and from d.c.h. and i know they are a privately funded hotel and i do have some concerns with what appears to be maybe not the best quality of life for the residents who are there. and i can't make that judgment call based on what i see walking around that neighborhood. and i has been to work across the street in the building 65 mission, so i am there every day. and i don't think it's a horrible block and there are certainly some folks who are homeless and where are they supposed to go if shelters are closing and federal government subsidies are decreasing and where do they go but the street? and another issue for another time. and i am not going to judge people who have no place to go because they're homeless. i think that there is a lot of issues that this product raises and i am willing to go ahead and doesn't sound like we have the support necessarily for the continuance and i think that there are issues that need to be reconsidered and even the 1,000 square feet which i think may be too excessive
