arizona's voter i.d. law was put -- voted on by the citizens of arizona back in 2004 with proposition 200. it was challenged in federal court. and it was shot down at the district level and it was going to be put on appeal but the marion county indiana case rendered that moot. the decision in which indiana has a tougher i.d. voter law than arizona so challenge to arizona's voter i.d. law were dropped. basically requirements you have to have a picture i.d. not a state driver's license, for instance, and the important thing is that your address you're registered to vote at has to match the address on the identification. so this hits populations that are more mobile than others, younger than others, and that's latino voters. >> is there a sense that this was targeted towards latino vote or a sense it will be used to try to tamp down on latino votes in the future? >> well, the initial challenge is -- you had challenges being filed by the navajo nation bought is faked them. they actually settled out of court w

how many i.d. related provisional ballots they had overall, and then for the count on each of those items. speaking of transparency, one of the nice things that's happened recently in indiana is that a law was passed that actually compels county election administrators to turn over the provisional balloting materials. for public consumption under basically indiana's foia law. 2012 data from the primary is based upon my actual review of all the provisional ballots that were cast throughout the state of indiana. and again this has been tough data to compile because you have to go county by county by county to all 92 counties and kind of stay on folks to produce them. but you can see that there are a fairly significant number of ballots that were cast in the 2008 primary and the 2012 primary. and not that many provisional ballots were cast, about 2,700 in 2008 and about 600 in 2012, and even below that there weren't that many provisional ballots related to identification. and mostly identification rel

my credit card and my i.d.ooked in my wallet and what i wrote in my column last week, i remember as a kid my dad's wallet got thicker and thicker with receipts and cards and he would sit down and it would thud on the table like a brick. i went through mine, and i have digital versions frequent flier cards. i don't need stamps because when do you send a physical letter. all i needed was a card and an i.d. i have this pouch on the back of my iphone. and then i took pictures of the cards that i need to get in the gym and things like that and i showed them my iphone and now i don't have to worry about the wallet. >> gavin: this is here to stay. >> there are more and more places where i can use square and pay by walking up up to the counter and charge my device. there are more and more instances where i don't need a piece of paper. i got on the plane last week and put in my phone and scanned it. and the credit cards will be part of this things, and then all i'd need is my i.d. or the chip in the head. >> gavin: it's
