nbc bay area's ian cole is at that toys-r-us. this went from bad to worse for the car thief. >> reporter: police spotted the stolen chevy suburben and they were forced to open fire on that suv. the suspect went inside the toys-r-us but it was a dead end. tonight, smashed cars and bullet casings scattered on blossom hill road after a man stole a chevy suburban and led them on a high-speed chase. >> he was going fast. and he plowed into here. it was weird to see my friend's car going that fast. >> reporter: the suspect rammed two cars and a patrol car. at that point the police fired shots in the suv and four bullet holes mark the driver's side door. but the suspect didn't stop racing into the toys-r-us parking lot. one witness said around 90 miles an hour. >> the police were coming in out of every angle. they were everywhere. >> reporter: the suspect ran into the back of the toy store. one shopper was nearly knocked over. >> he had a black bag around him. a lot of things could have happen. he could have took us for hostage. >> repo

we have ian macdonald with us. ian: yes, good morning. we obviously had a 25 basis point interest rate cut. it was what was expected. what was not expected was graham wheeler saying with that cut in place, he now believes that inflation would return to the midpoint of his target. and traders took that as an indication that the cycle is over. and they probably brought the kiwi, something the central bank of new zealand does not want. anna: do you think graham wheeler is overconfident about his expectations, inflation is going to get back to the target range -- the midpoint of 2%? central banks around the world grappling with this problem, of course. ian: you are exactly right. we know global inflation pressures are almost nowhere to be seen. interestingly enough, the graham wheeler forecast midpoint will not be reached until the end of 2017. that is two years away, and he seems quite confident that will happen. quite a few banks do not believe that the current interest rate setting will happen, but quite a few commercial banks in new zeala

let us get to sydney, and speak to ian macdonald.p .9 in the quarter, which is amazing compared to the last quarter. is there a downside to the story? ian: hi, guy. yes, so it did finish quite strong. but as you notice, a lot of it had to do with exports. if you take away exports from the equation, domestic demand actually shrank by .5%. it is the worst result on that score since the global financial crisis. it is an indication of the impact of the continuing slump in mining investments. also, investment spending by government was very weak in the quarter. again, take away those exports, it doesn't look quite as good a picture. guy: so, the obvious question that follows from that, i guess, is exports are up. commodities are down, and china is slowing? how is that happening? ian: it is basically a function of the mining investment boom that we had. we had the central bank governor glenn stevens talking about the aftermath of the boom. one of the positives is that with all of the extra mines being constructed, australia is now shipping
