nbc bay area's ian cole joins us in the newsroom with the details. ian, what do we need to know? >> the new rules were tested at ten different airports where passengers had to take large electronics out of carry ones. soon you'll see it at every airport. in the coming weeks, the tsa is going to ask you to unload more as they look closer at you're electronics. >> safety has been a big problem in the united states, especially overseas. i think that's good that they're keeping us safe. >> reporter: you've already had to remove laptop computers from your carry on. now any device larger and a cell phone must also go into a separate bin and through the x-ray machine. >> it is a hassel. i would rather put everything in my checked luggage but i want it to arrive in one piece. so i take it with me. >> reporter: the rules are already in place at ten u.s. airports including boston, detroit and los angeles. >> i think passengers can expect longer wait times. there's really just no way that you can start dumping more items out of a bag and somehow keep the lines going the same speed. >> repor
