nbc bay area's ian cull has been digging into this story for us. okay, ian. so what's the difference this time? yeah. and you know, that was the question we had in the newsroom this morning. why was this so different? and, you know, though certain cities had brief power outages over the last two weeks, there was no need for large scale rolling blackouts. there were no flex alerts, no statewide power emergencies. so i spoke with the ceo of california iso, which manages most of the state's power grid. he says there are a few reasons one, the coast stayed relatively cool during the heat wave, and the bigger reason is the investments in renewable energy over the past four years by state agencies and utilities. and we've brought on thousands of megawatts of new generating resources on our system, thousands of megawatts of new solar projects. and probably most importantly, we're now close to 10,000mw of batteries on our grid, which are able to absorb excess solar energy during the day and re-inject it back into the system at night. that's made a major difference. o
