one of those drivers is our own photographer and friend, ian babcock.e was on his way to work and he's now talking about what that experience was like. and shows us the video he recorded just moments after the mudslide. here's abc7 news reporter jonathan bloom. >> my air bag went off. jesus christ. the whole mountain came down on top of me approximate. >> reporter: these were the first terrifying moments after abc7 news photographer ian babcock found himself trapped as trees and rocks fell from above. >> we need chp badly. >> we have chp, fire and ambulance. >> reporter: it was 3:00 in the morning and he was on his way to work. >> the whole mountain just exploded in front of me like this. it just -- it didn't come down in front of me. it came straight sideways and then crash. that was it. i hit a boulder at 45 miles an hour. >> reporter: chp video shows what became of the van he was driving, mangled beyond recognition but the impact was just beginning. he says for a moment the world went black but then. >> i could feel the truck getting raised up and th
