's the president and founder of the eurasia group and gzero media. sir, very grateful to have you on the program. good morning to you. ian, can you talk a little bit more about what you mean by by g-zero and and the parallels you see between this time period and the 1930s, right before world war ii broke out? >> yeah, i call it a return to the law of the jungle, because the united states, of course, today is in a much more powerful position, both compared to its allies technologically, militarily, economically. strength of governance. i mean, you look at where south korea or germany or france or italy and canada, any of the allies are right now, and the u.s. has just consolidated power with its election in a very strong executive, but also america's adversaries. russia, in very structural and serious decline. iran having just lost its empire in its own region, and china facing very serious economic challenges, the worst they've had in decades. this is a time where the united states has

ian bremmer joins us now. he's president and founder of eurasia group and gzero media. that this is about as dangerous of a time since the 1930s, globally, or the early stages of the cold war. i wanted to ask you, though, ian. i'm going to go all the way down to number eight, i agree. i mean, there is so much to worry about on this list. i you wrote something regarding number eight and that's i and you say developers drive to build more powerful ai will likely to be restrained only by limits on data, compute energy or funding access until such constraints are reached. ai's capabilities and associated risks will continue to grow unchecked. and i think for the long range, this this is something that gravely concerns me. i remember watching christopher nolan's classic oppenheimer, and while watching oppenheimer, i was thinking, this is not really a story so much about controlling atomic energy and the spread of it. this is all too relevant to what's going on in the world of ai, where, you know, i remember on wall street leading up to the great recession and, you know, 2008

. >> evelyn, our friend ian bremmer was talking specifically about canada, but i imagine you could apply it also to the situation around the panama canal and greenland. he said that canada, but maybe other countries are going from irritated to actively off about this type of type of talk. what are you hearing in the international community? >> yeah, i mean, i think that initially there was a tendency to maybe not take it seriously. obviously, he's not even the president yet. so the leaders of the world are kind of holding their breath. but i think you saw panama come out very clearly and say, no way, jose, pun intended. you know, you can't have our canal. we control it. not china, not anyone else. and we maintain control over that. the situation with greenland is actually quite complex because while denmark is the sovereign over greenland. greenland also has its own government and its own self-government. so those folks have been very clear in denmark that the united states has no business interfering with the sovereignty of their control or their their governing of greenland. the people
