cnn's ian lee is following the manhunt for us in jerusalem. ian. >> reporter: good morning, christine. right now, the main concern for police is capturing this man in the third day of the manhunt. they fear that while they consider him armed and dangerous, that he could commit another crime. another sort of shooting. they are aiming their focus on capturing him. they have s.w.a.t. teams and terrorism units searching abandoned buildings and construction sites. they believe he could be hiding out in tel aviv or northern tel aviv. police have over 1,000 extra units in the tel aviv area helping with this manhunt. also providing security for schools that has been a concern for families sending children to school. we have seen a decline in students. there is extra security. there's extra patrols around there. police are also investigating if this suspect also killed someone in the northern part of the tel aviv area outside a hotel. this happened just 20 minutes after the fatal shooting. now the family who was the first people to call police and ident

ian lee is following the so story for us from jerusalem, and a number of unanswered questions, e yap,ian, and what u tell us about this attack or about the gunman? >> well, brianna, the two big answers is who is this gunman, where is this gunman and is this a criminal act or the terrorist attack. we heard on channel 2, the minister of public security coming out to say, they still don't know who it was or the motivation behind it. so as we are seeing in the shop and the market, a man who appears the be buying something, and then he returns the item, and puts the bag on the shopping carts, and that is when he gets out the gun, and starting to spray the sidewalk. two people were killed abfour are now in serious condition, and right now, a massive manhunt is under way, and the spokesman said that it is flooded with the police officers looking for the suspect in tel aviv, and they are saying that the residents should go about their normal life, but be more cautious of going between places, and being on the streets burk right now, that suspect, that gunman is still very much at large, brian

cnn's ian lee is in jerusalem with the latest on this as we look at that new video. ian?porter: that's right. that's giving us a lot of clues, telling us exactly what happened, fredericka. as we see a man coming in with bar with bullets and then the - running away. it looks like the incident took place less than 15 seconds, although we don't know what happened once he went off camera. but this is the person police are searching for right now in tel aviv. they're going door to door, going through people's gardens. a massive police operation, searching for this suspect -- this person that carried out this attack. now, two people have been killed. eight people injured. four of them right now are in serious condition. the police at this hour are still not saying whether this was criminal or if this was a terrorist attack. these are things they're investigating. one thing one eyewitness told us, saying the weather here is bad right now. that's likely prevented this from being an even worse attack as it's rainy, not a lot of people are out on this first day of the week end, but

first, let's go to ian lee, our reporter on the ground in israel. what is the latest you're hearing there? >> reporter: we're watching these videos and really this is what the police are watching as well. looking to see what clues they can get about this gunman. which direction he ran off to and which will give him a clue as to where he could possibly be going. a quite bizarre footage, that cctv video in the supermarket, looking at produce, picking it up, putting it back, before putting his bag on those shopping carts and shooting up the pub, the sidewalk, killing those people, then running away. but leaving that bag, too. that will be another clue for authorities as they search for him right now. but it is shabbat here in israel, and security is going to be ramped up around tel aviv. not only for looking for the suspect but also in case this was a terrorist attack. right now they don't know. if it was, they want to secure places of worship as well, jim. >> ian lee, live from jerusalem. i want to talk to mickey rosenfeld, national spokesman for isra

let's get the latest on these and bring in ian lee. you had an opportunity to speak with the suspect's uncle. what all did he tell you about this man? >> well, rosemary, they told me about a man who is very disturbed. they say that he's been stuff suffering from depression. back in 2007 when he was arrested and served five years for trying to steal a gun from a soldier, that he was again diagnosed with the psychological disorder and put on medication. the family is concerned that she is not on his medication, and that he -- they're urging him to turn himself in. their fear right now is that he would be killed either in a police operation or he might kill himself. but the police right now, their main goal going into day number three of this man hunt is to find him and neutralize him, one way or another. the fear is he could be planning another attack or carry out another attack. school districts in tel aviv right now are reporting that -- we're hearing a lot of the families are keeping their chn h home from school. they've beefed up sec

. >> cnn correspondent ian lee is following the story live for us in jerusalem this hour on the investigation. ian, good to have you. we just heard from the suspect's father. what more do you know about this suspect and his background? >> george, we just were up in his hometown talking to his uncle. his uncle describes someone who is very disturbed, someone who had psychological issues, someone who had been previously on medication and was in a clinic being treated for that, especially when he was in jail, arrested in 2007 for trying to steal a gun from an israeli soldier. that's when around that time is when he started receiving his treatment. his family is very concerned. they don't know if he's taking his medication. they want to have the police arrest him. they want the police to take care of him. their main concern now, though, this could end deadly. either someone could kill him or he would take his own life. they said they urge him, wherever he is, to turn himself in. that this should end and end peacefully, george. >> ian, i'd like to talk about the situation when it comes to the gene

cnn ian lee joining us now. what do we know. >> brianna, in the bast couple of hours, we have been learning a lot about him. starting with the father. the father recognized him from that security footage that was taken from the shooting. he went to his safe. he looked for a gun that he had stored there. he found it missing. he then went and called thor these and said my son was responsible for the shooting. you need to arrest him. his father is a volunteer for the local police. now, after that happened, the police tipped off. the family says their son, the nephew has not been back since that incident took place. he's at large. but really, right now, brianna, the police, their main goal is to neutralize him as they say, to make sure he cannot carry out another attack. every security agency, internal agency is working on this case. they have road blocks around tel aviv, searching other places as well, making sure that they can stop him before he could potentially carry out another attack. >> are they leaning towar

ian lee is following this story from jerusalem. ian, are police any closer to locating him? >> at this hour, fredricka, we haven't heard if there are any closer, and they're describing this incident as complex, unique, and radical. and mainly because it doesn't fit any molds. it doesn't fit the typical criminal act, it doesn't fit a typical terrorist attack. and terrorist attacks, usually, you have the suspect either killed or detained at the scene of the crime, and in talking to police, it is unusual to see them flee like this. that's what makes this person very dangerous. they're still treating this as if he is armed, he is dangerous, and potentially could carry out another attack. and so, this massive manhunt is underway. they have the shin bet is involved. this is like the israeli fbi. but they also released a statement and i'll read that to you. they say the police want to expose all the aspects of the event, including the possibility of a victim in an additional area. the motive and other elements including the question whether it is about a murderer who acted alone. n

. >> ian lee is following the story from jerusalem. ian, what's your understanding as to the use of the identity now being revealed. how that might help in the ongoing manhunt? >> well, fredricka, it will definitely help if anyone has seen this person or knows his whereabouts, that they will be able to help the police by telling them, you know, listen. this is where he's at. but, we have seen some new video, security footage video of him before the attack. this security video is going to be crucial in helping not only determine how this happened, but also where he went afterwards. the police will be looking to see what escape routes he took. but, talking to the family today, we are learning more about him as a person. his father, according to his uncle, recognized him from the security footage. he went immediately and looked at his safe. he noticed a gun was missing. his father is a volunteer with the police. he said that you have to arrest my son immediately. we're also learning that back in 2007, when he was initially arrested for try

joining me now to talk more about this is cnn's ian lee. he's covering this from jerusalem. ian, we only saw these glimpses of the shooting, but what are witnesses saying about this attack? >> well, witnesses are telling us that it happened very quick ly. that a lot of them heard it and really didn't see it take place. but two people who talked to israel radio describe this man as being all dressed in black. you see he leaves that bag behind. we're also hearing a clip behind from that gun. this is all crucial pieces of evidence going forward. he said they still don't know if this is criminal or a terrorist attack. but we have seen those. they're telling residents to go about their daily lives, be more precautious. the police are saying they didn't have intelligence leading up to this. a big manhunt under way. there's also been a frightening incident at a mosque in france. a driver tried to run over soldiers guarding the mosque. they opened fire after he rammed into them twice. the driver and a number of soldiers were injured. all of this happening as two busy train stations i

>> ian lee, thank you so much. >>> a senior producer with the "huffington post" happened to be at the scene of the tel-aviv shooting. she is an american that was vacationing in israel. >> i was about five stores up north of where the shooting occurred. we heard multiple rounds of gunshots. people pulled over their cars, something i had never seen before in the united states. people leapt out of their cars, one man with a handgun to go to pursue the individual who did this. a lot of israelis and people here in tel-aviv running toward the scene as others got away from it. it was a bit of a confusing scene when it happened. one woman, who spoke to channel 2 and to me. she and seven others described how they hid in a storage closet in the basement of a bar next door. one french woman who said immediately she heard the gun shots and thought of paris. how terrifying of her. she thought it was possibly going to come into her store when she realized it was a shooting. it was a very, very terrifying scene. also, people were really coming together afterwards on the street and supporting each ot

last night the robber targeted one of those stores less than a day earlier and shot the clerk kim ian lee joins us live from london to meet alice about the precautions being taken after this rash of robberies yet regina norfolk police tell me that they are sending extra patrols all throughout the city not just to keep an eye on the seven eleven stores but all commercial businesses and the manager at this store tells me that seven eleven is actually providing private security guards to the stores for some time so this is the store where that clerk was shot on wednesday around two a m today police released the name of the suspect in that robbery his name is kevin bristow he is still on the loose as far as we know and the police are asking for down right now he's only being charged for that first robbery early wednesday morning it's not clear if he's connected to any of the other robberies from last night. now i did speak with some customers today about how they feel about the rash of robberies going on at the seven eleven stores in your thinking here's what one had to say is pretty shocking
