* ~ ,, i don't know how you follow the double act of ian murray and jackie baillie.or everything you brought to the campaign. delighted to be here. ijust want to echo some of what we said last night. this is a remarkable result. i want to talk a bit about the thousands of people we lead during this campaign. we have spent six months on every single story in this constituency, talking to voters at every single door about their hopes, their aspirations, their dreams, their aspirations, their dreams, their fears, their aspirations, their dreams, theirfears, their their aspirations, their dreams, their fears, their concerns for this community. it has been the honour of my life to talk to all those people, to get to know them. to find out from them what they want their mp to fight for an hour to be their mp, to have their chance to represent them is incredible. this result shows not only that people are fed up with the two governments that are distracted, out of touch, but also that they are ready for change. people wanted a fresh start. the number of doors i'd knocked on

i was speaking to ian murray who until yesterday was labour's only mp for labour in scotland.ts of edinburgh, parts of the central belt between edinburgh and glasgow, parts of east lothian are now all in play for the labour party. i was talking to the deputy leader of scottish labour jackie baillie who said she thinks labour have a good chance of winning a majority of seats in scotland. that is quite extraordinary when you stand back from it and think in the last general election, they only won one seat and by winning the by—election yesterday, they have now got two. but i do think when you listen to humza yousaf, the snp leader, a few seconds ago, it's important to remember the caveat. the first caveat is scottish politics is pretty volatile. rutherglen and hamilton west has changed seats at every election since 2015. the rest of the country has been pretty volatile at points as well. so i wouldn't be certain of what is going to happen over the next year or so. the other factor thatis next year or so. the other factor that is really important to bear in mind as well is nobody

but up till today labour only had one scottish seat and that was edinburgh south where ian murray andmay be familiar with and that is his seat and he's been incumbent there for quite some time and of course since really the 2014 independence referendum , scottish labour has been in essence wiped off the map when you consider that, you know , a you consider that, you know, a decade before that they were the governing party here in scotland. so keir starmer has made it quite clear that scotland is integral to his plan to win the next general election and that plan was really set in motion months ago when the recall petition began going out for margaret ferrier. so it seems like forever ago, but certainly that recall position came back with more than 10% of this constituency having signed it , she was recalled. and then it, she was recalled. and then we had scotland's first recall by—election here in rutherglen and hamilton west. quite a small turnout as we've come to kind of expect really from the by elections. all around the country. but still 58% of that vote voting in favour of micha

doubled their seats in scotland today because before michael shanks when this by—election only ian murrayeir starmer, he has made it clear that scotland is the key to having a win in the next general election and he is going to be throwing everything at these seats north of the border to make sure that that happens. it's safe to say that happens. it's safe to say that over the last six months or so, labour have spent a lot of resources canvassing here, michael shanks being saying that he's been on the ground talking to upwards of 30,000 people over the last six months to just get a feel for the constituency and to get his name out there. of course he has had brushes with politics in the past. he's tried to for stand the glasgow council elections and been unsuccessful. he's also tried to go for the kelvin hall seat and 2016, but lost out there . third place to lost out there. third place to patrick harvie of the scottish greens and the snp again, and certainly now that he is back in, a lot of people will be maybe questioning how much he's going to toe the line. he has been quite out there

but he's listened to his shadow scottish secretary ian murray, who is actually very sensible chap anded flirting with this idea of maybe we'll do a deal with the snp, maybe we'll have a scottish referendum again. you know , generation may again. you know, generation may not be that long and all that sort of nonsense which some people in the scottish labour party were urging him to do, and he no, no , we're he said, no, no, no, we're definitely to that definitely not going to do that . and that has made both scottish conservatives lviv voters again voters feel comfortable again about voting labour in scotland because they don't want scotland to have another referendum. they don't want scotland to go independent and labour has become a unionist party again and the unionist vote is actually uniting again. okay >> yeah, just a slight point of clarification to something that was said there. transport minister humza yousaf drove without insurance and that was where friend's car and that where his friend's car and that was back the article from the 7th 2016. so you're 7th of december 2016. s
