here's reporter ian pannell with what the attacker yelled before setting the fire. >> reporter: who arek scenes in kyoto, japan, where this three-story building was set alight early thursday morning deliberately. this was an arson attack, the building was full of people hard at work producing and i may films which are popular in japan. what we understand from police and fire officials is a man entered the building early on thursday morning shouting you die. he apparently sprayed some kind of liquid fire accelerant onto the ground, set fire to it. and you can see how it caught blaze quite quickly. it's the moek that normally skills people. you can see it billowing up. a number of people were discovered on the stairwell dead trying to get up onto the roof. were overcome by the fumes from that fire. the man who set fire to this building, he's the obvious suspect. is he now in custody. but he was also injured in the attack. it's not known what his motive was. it's not clear if it was a former employee of the company. of course, that's something for police officials to investigate when the m

here is abc's ian pannell tonight. >> reporter: tonight, a suspect in custody as japan mourns the victims of an horrific arson attack that's left at least 33 dead. the blaze broke out in this three-story building home to kyoto animation, a major studio a man in his 40s entered, witnesses say shouting "die, die", pouring highly flammable liquid and setting it alight.
