today i spoke to one of ian willsey's best friend. we spoke to ryan myers. stunned and in disbelief, the fellow high school freshman fondly remembers willsey. >> the 14-year-old was gunned down last night ten blocks from his home here at grouse and cotman. investigators believe someone fired at willsey while trying to rob him. >> lately we have been having a lot of burglaries, robberies, but right outside your door? >> reporter: this woman says she heard three shots and found willsey just outside. myers also tells us most students at northeast high found out about the death this morning when they arrived at school. >> they took me in a room and there was a lot of people there that was crying. >> reporter: late this, the school district released a statement saying in part, our hearts are with ian's family and friends and the community during this difficult time. we came here to the willsey home to see if the family wanted to talk about this tragedy, they asked for pryorivacy at this ti. >>> happening right now, protesters are being led away in hand cuffs in c

. >> reporter: two men gunned down and 14-year-old ian willsey when he was with a friend in mayfair. the family didn't return home where neighbors waited to offer their support and left letters outside the family's door tonight. >> when i hear that, i was really sad for him, for his mom. >> reporter: police say awe gunman shot the freshman on brown and devereaux as he tried to get away. sources close to the investigation say detectives are looking into the possibility that someone targeted willsey. for what reason, the motive points to attempted robbery where. >> we are talking about young children in particular. it really tugs at your heart strings and it just makes you really sad and angry at the same time. >> one of his best friends remembered him today as school counsellors were on hand to console students over the loss. >> he didnif anything was wrong would try to fix it. >> he had a great sense of humor. kind, loving. i don't know. i mean, he was here all the time. >> reporter: detectives continue to search for surveillance video, but they're relying on anyone who saw anything
