i would be remiss -- i believe it would be remiss of san francisco for this iconic city to fail in itslocal by not placing this as a critical element regarding any advocacy modifying legislation. the city of santos, has its work cut out for it. it must stand for all its residents. well certainly is committed to strong support immigration reform, it is apparent there will impose the inclusion of -- rather than excluding no one. from the lgbt perspective, this is going to be tough, and i submit to the city that they consider the following list of ideas which i have cryptically penned for this testimony. i have noticed that time has gone over, and i know how that feels, so i would just read one or two of them and make my testimony available in writing.

mary helen rogers happens to be an icon well known to many of us throughout the city but formerly a resident of district five in the fillmore in the western addition and this building is aptly, i think, should be named after her. her legacy is well known and well felt throughout the western addition in the city but in particular in areas that have been confronted and challenged by policies of redevelopment in urban renewal. she stood up and she stood out where others did not. she was really able to galvanize where others couldn't. so i think this building, rightfully so, recognizes, in part, some of that legacy, and i know her family would be proud. president chiu: supervisor maxwell? supervisor maxwell: with that, she also made huge changes in redevelopment, huge changes that, in my community when we had a redevelopment project area committee, it made a huge difference because of some of the things and policies that mary rogers and a lot of the people that work with her put in place so i think it's very appropriate that a building like this be named after her. thank you. president chiu: any

the rainbow flag is an iconic image of the lgbtq committee -- community around the world. you can go to great cities of the world like madrid and paris and see the rainbow banner on polls that designates neighborhoods and communities that have a preponderance of people from the lgbtq community in the conference -- in the city. currently they are not be able -- not legal because of the legislation establishing the path on market street that in 1991. if you are in the castro neighborhood there are banners there and they are well maintained and clean. and they are well managed. because of these provisions, market street is not able to have a replacement. i would like to start an acknowledgement from the bureau street map of public works. it has been difficult for them because of all laws in practice not being in sync with each other. which is difficult. i would like to acknowledge that this recipe -- legislation has been referred for historic legislation recommendation committee and i am asking colleagues that if action can be taken it would be to send this item forward without recommendation. mary rod
