ida is a category 1 storm with 80 mile-an-hour winds.ready caused a lot of flooding in nicaragua. forecasters say watch out for flooding, rough surf and possible tornadoes. louisiana already declared a state of emergency. we're not talking about just the gulf coast area here. >> no, you're right. we're looking at the heavy rain swath through central alabama, mississippi, the panhandle of florida, into georgia and the carolinas. the leading edge of the rain is coming ashore in northern parts of florida. right now, indian pass, 24 miles an hour. new orleans, about 27 miles per hour. wind should pick up over the next couple of hours, become hurricane strength. where does it go from here? we'll talk about that in about three minutes. >>> the army is saying that 16 are still in the hospital this morning. the suspected shooter is off the ventilator, but investigators are asking for help from anybody present at the shooting. they may have left with evidence like firearm residue or shell casings. we have new comment frs a soldier shot in the hip

this is hurricane ida, category 1.to 115, moving between the yucatan peninsula and parts of cuba expected to move into the gulf of mexico. the latest path we have shows the storm veering to the north, gaining strength, becoming a category 2 hurricane, then moving off right the coast of louisiana, then staying off the coast as you get into wednesday, and then back into thursday, just downgrading to a tropical storm, then a depression. not expected to make landfall for the time being. that's not a time to be comfortable if you are along the gulf coast, louisiana, alabama, into florida. remember, the hurricane season ends at the end of november so if you have that hurricane preparedness kit, you need to get it ready. the season's not over. this storm may come calling. what we'll see around the nation is pretty nice, in the southeast high pressure the feature which is is going to give you pretty nice conditions, plenty of blue skies, lot of sunshine, nice mild conditions through much of texas. when you get to the western h

the latest with tropical storm ida. you see the winds at 70, but gusts higher, up to 85 miles per hour as the storm gets closer and closer to the gulf coast. we're already seeing the bands of wind and rain affecting the region at this time, and the track is moving on forward in its advancement towards the alabama area. somewhere in the vicinity as we get closer to mobile, in the early hours of the morning, we're going to see this actual storm come onshore. when we talk about landfall, it means the center of the eye passing ober a barrier island or some part of land. that doesn't mean the strongest winds won't actually come onshore. tropical storm force winds in advance of it. the curvature affecting allal and into georgia. a look at the tropical storm wind warning meaning the areas highlighted in orange you see here, the parishes of louisiana, some of the counties of alabama and mississippi and florida, these areas will see tropical storm force winds, and it stretches far inland. so we'll see the force of this storm eve

this is old ida. the energy is still there. the rain is still here. it's turning into a coastal low just south of cape hatteras. you combine that low pressure with the high pressure from the north. basically through sunday morning this low is only gradually going to shift away to the east. now look at the rain. it's heavy at times philly down to d.c. stretching back into west virginia, but the wind warnings are up there. those are the areas that are shaded in red. lower parts of virginia and maryland, also the coast of virginia. the yellow shaded areas, wind advisories for today. winds gusting easily to 50 miles an hour. it will be a tough commute for you, no doubt. look at that big stream of rain up the atlantic ocean, piling it in and blasting its way all the way through virginia, back into d.c. and then wrapping around across western virginia through roanoke. you can see there with the blacksburg radar picking up very well. then up to the north the leading edge is right around the philadelphia metro. to new york, i don't think you'll get a lot of r

is this the remnants of what used to be ida? >> it is and it's slow moving, too.g mixed up with the cold front, getting absorbed in that moving to the northeast. some of the rainfall totals around georgia, because those are the ones coming in now, columbus, georgia, 4.6 inches of rain. atlanta 4.25 inches of rain. that's storm total. the rain continues to fall in north georgia and sliding into south carolina. very heavy at times near charlotte, north carolina. here is that radar picture coming out. you see a couple feeder bans off the atlantic ocean beginning to channel warm moisture in there. we're going to see the rain off and on all day with that solid shield moving through virginia no maryland, too. here is the way it goes. this is coming out of charleston. here's the hilton head. this is beaufort, south carolina. savannah is here, the thunderstorms moving to the west. not severe. just real heavy rainmakers currently heading into i-95. so something you're watching earlier this morning and a solid deck of rain when you get into charlotte through raleigh and str

tropical storm ida might make that a little tough for some of you. let's check in with reynolds wolf for the latest on that. hey, reynolds. >> it's been really a quiet year for us tropical wise, especially in the atlantic basin, the caribbean, until the last couple of days. we had a hurricane, now it's been downgraded to a tropical storm. we're talking about ida, which is a powerful storm. one of the strongest in the planet. it had some interaction with the land in nicaragua and honduras. now it's gaining a little bit of strength. right now the winds are at 45 gusting to 60 miles an hour. thing is, though, this storm is expected to strengthen. still staying as a tropical storm, but the latest path we have from the national hurricane center has the storm moving to the north and right between cancun, cuba, and moving into the gulf of mexico as we get into both monday and into tuesday. now, if you happen to live along the gulf coast, i would certainly be advised to keep a sharp eye on this. however, there isn't a single forecast that brings this onshore

ida is about 75 miles west of cuba.o skirt the yucatan peninsula and move over the coast before making landfall along the gulf coast sometime on tuesday. between now and then, it could hit a cold front over the gulf and may lose hurricane strength and come ashore perhaps as a tropical storm. >>> you try to block it out? >> it's kind of hard to deal with sometimes. >> that was private joseph foster, one of the soldiers wounded in the ft. hood shootings on friday. we just got the comments in a short time ago. and the latest development three days after the shooting rampage that left 13 dead and more than 40 injured. private foster says although the attack was horrible, it's brought out the best in that tightly knit ft. hood community. >> i got back home it was friday afternoon. >> you say you were hit where? >> in the left hip. >> what does this mean to you to have these other families come here? it's been great, actually. she does most of the cooking but i enjoy it, too. and they have been coming by bringing us food, off

this is our tropical storm, ida. it's not moving very fast, drifting to the northwest at seven miles per hour. 70-mile-per-hour sustained winds but is beginning to interact with the land mass. it's running out of a little bit of steam once it comes inland. i don't think it's really going to be down for too long. here is what we're thinking with the path, it goes right over honduras and nicaragua. we're talking about tremendous amounts of rainfall, too. since it's a slow mover, it's going to rain over the same spot for a longer period. as much as 25 inches of rain across the honduras mountains and nicaragua, too. mud slides are a problem f. it keeps up with rotation and moves in to the caribbean it has a chance to get to the gulf of mexico. we hope that doesn't happen. areas like texas, louisiana, you have to watch out for. look at the rest of the country. not much going on except for a clipper. >> bob, looking forward to it. >>> sex addiction was the topic at that got joy behar all riled up last night. check out her

for the last couple days now, it's old ida but reform lating stronger now.ple that low pressure with the high pressure building in new england, and you also have a lot of rain. look at the greens and yellios. that's an indication of the heaviest rainfall. and the wind advisories are posted, too. and winds are gusting to 50 miles per hour today and that goes all the way up to the jersey shore. and then look at the wind warnings around parts of virginia and delaware and maryland, too. you are looking at gusting about 60 miles per hour. extremely fast-moving winds along the coastline. that's something we are watching. look at the rain around the outer banks there, and that's blasting northward and through virginia and the rest of the state there. and then it wraps back around for you to the western half of the state. and it moves all the way into the northeast today. also, light rainfall in the areas of light blue. philadelphia light scattered showers. most of the rainfall is shy of long island in new york, can you see it there. the wind will be up and the day

heads up what's going to happen the next two to three days because we still have the remnants of old ida yesterday getting a lot of rain across areas like south carolina and north carolina. it's pulling out of georgia now, but here's your low pressure region. that's the energy. that transfers off the coast over the next day, day and a half and actually merges with this little energy packet. basically a swirl in the clouds but something we're watching. south of bermuda. that energy gets absorbed into this cold front as well. turns into a pretty potent coastal storm off the south carolina coast, moves over to cape hatteras the next couple of days. a slow mover. the rain will pile up. heavy rain over eastern north carolina as well. that will be here today and recycle off the ocean tomorrow. tomorrow through friday, the next due days, get a load of this, this is how much rain will accumulate the next 48 hours. the white-shaded areas, ten inches of rain, chesapeake getting in toward washington, d.c. the purple-shaded areas, that's eight inches of rain. that is a huge chunk of eastern parts of

old ida now redeveloping just south of cape hat rus in north carolina.e's high pressure building into new england. it's the difference in pressures that gets the wind going right across the ocean. right now 40 mile per hour gusts right in that vicinity by laguardia airport. big time problems with that. look at the rain coming in through washington out of philadelphia. the other big story, of course, the wind right off the ocean. coastal flood warnings because of the ocean getting pushed on up. high wind warnings with gusting up to 60 miles per hour. rain and wind, 60 mile per hour gus gusts. inland you can see the rain beginning to break up just a bit over the mountains. then it picks up again just south of philadelphia, back in wards cape may. flash flood watches and warnings out here for the afternoon. out west, it's all snow for you for the higher elevations of the sierras and the cascades. tape from california. this is what it looks like. getting a lot of snow today. talking about 3 to 6 inches above about 4,000 feet. how about that? that is live. yo

now, you may have heard about all the commotion associated with the remnants of ida that pounded theid-atlantic and southern new england. well, now it's still beginning to exit across that extreme southern new england region, but still the remnants of that still lashing those areas. but for new york city, an improved day with temperatures expected to be mostly into the 60s. that's running about 10 to 12 degrees above normal. also, for the deep south, temperatures in the 70s. if you're headed to southern california, those winds are going to be fairly gusty. so we're looking at some wind advisories for riverside county, also, san bernardino. watch out, some of those wind gusts up around 40 to 50 miles an hour. for hln, i'm meteorologist karen maginnis. >>> you could call it a beauty contest and you can bet someone is really proud of the winner. >> when you look at missy, she has a lot of style, a lot of presence. she knows she's prettiy. >> mm-hmm, missy is a cow and she's considered as perfect as cows get. wait until you hear how much money someone paid for her. >>> air travel can be

first thing this morning, hurricane ida came to shore, currently over land. so really raining very hard across eastern nicaragua, 75 miles an hour. that's a weak hurricane, but look at the track. this is odd to see it in november, but the track will take it back into the caribbean and if it holds together over land, about it comes back into the gulf of mexico, it could be a problem for the lower gulf coast sometime mix week. so we have a lot of time to watch it, but interesting to note, usually 5% of all tropical activity occurs in november. so it's kind of rare to see something this late in the season. west coast, a lot of clouds spilling inland around san francisco. goes all the way in towards seattle and look at the rain just offshore. that rain is working in. seattle today could get as much as one to two inches of rain and we'll talk about that in a little bit. >> fast mover. >>> you've got to see the video of a prison attack with an amazing twist. an inmate attacking a 64-year-old guard behind that desk putting him in a chokehold. then other inmates jump
