gains for the ifo index. the revisions, as well -- there are no revisions to march indices, so it does end up to the sixth month of gains. this is how the markets are reacting to the news. euro-dollar is taking a bit of a spike higher. euro-dollar is just over 131. and this is how the european markets are reacting -- equity markets are reacting, as well. the tax dax is up by 0.6%. some of the commentary, as well, ifo saying that the german economy is showing some resilience because clearly we are seeing headwinds for different parts of the eurozone, particularly in the peripheral eurozone countries. we'll talk about spain plenty during the show. but a little bit better than expected ifo numbers out. our guest host, eric britain. so section months of gaiix mong. but is this enough strength for germany? >> we need germany to be strong particularly in terms of its domestic consumption and domestic demand more so than production. it's been strong in production terms somewhat, but production ultimately depends on

>> ifo is a much wider survey. it involves more smaller companies. whereas the pmi tends to be larger companies and it tends to give you a pulse on what's happening in the global economy. so the pmi for me is a concern. and if you look at the charts and you look at manufacturing in the impt fo versus manufacturing in the pmi, you can see that most of the team, particularly in terms of an upswing, but also a down swing, the pmi will tend to lead the ifo report. so the ifo is giving us a signal suggesting german domestic demand is improving a bit, retail sales might be come you through, certainly seeing it in the real estate sector. that's all quite positive. but the pmi for better mgerman exporters, the picture is weak. must be said a lot of the european orders are actually coming out in asia and conditions there on the soft side. >> chris also intimated these numbers suggest we're going into third quarter of contraction for the eurozone. when we look at what's going on as far as the politics of combined with this, what's your assessment of what happe

and prices have fall ento below $2.25 in mp ifo than t picre h rely fallen off so it is kind of an offset. >> tom: the historic drop we've seen in natural-gas price, is the boom of production over? in other words, lower prices, prices that folks have just turned off those wells? >> i think the problem is usually that has been the case, tom, usually when prices drop, they start to lay down rigs and sometimes we jokingly refer to it as the redneck opec. it kind of works but there time it is a little bit different. because when you drill for natural gas you get natural gas liquides in a lot of these wells which are very valuable and that is lowing-- slowing down this prograof getting things back to rmal >> tomthe other differce abounatural gas is it moved well beyond just the gulf coast production. we've got mean shale natural gas in the dakotas, in pennsylvania t has become a much more competitive environment? >> absolutely. and they think the shale finds are all over here. it has a great long-term future. domestically proud. it's clean burning. but you look at it right now, price around 2.
