"five times from the jews he received the forty stripes, save one (which was 39. now listen if you understand scourging which this was, usually a man could not take 39 and he would die. and so they usually had to stop short. but he went through it five times without benefit of antibiotics. without benefit of hospital care. and so how he suffered. so he had to reprove them with those two letters of i and ii corinthians. but they're still appropriate for us even today. all right, then you come to the book of galatians, even though it was written earliest, but it's in the fourth of the order of the church letters, written before romans, but after, in our new testament order, now we have a book that was written for 'correction.' all right, i think it wasn't that long ago, what did the galatians need in slipping off to? legalism! see? they were slipping off course and they were going back into legalism. so the book of galatians was literally written to bring them back on course. 'you're not under law, you're under grace.' the whole six chapters of that little book was on that theme and that theme alone. but, if you'll remember when we were in galatians, what was he constantly referring to? abraham. and then we used the allegory of isaac and ishmael, as pictures of law and grace, see? constantly flipping back into the old testament and using the jew as examples and appealing to the jew to come out of thei

ii thessalonian letters. now again, remember we came through paul's original of especially asia minor and greece and corinth and the letter to the romans, the letters to the corinthians, the letter to the galatians and then we saw that beginning with acts 28:28 from his time in prison, he writes what we call the prison letters, or the prison epistles of ephesian, philippians and colossians, which are just a jump up doctrinally, in depth and understanding from what you have back here. then as we finisd those three letters, then we come to the earlier letters that were written, but they're really final in their content and those are the i and ii thessalonians, which can now follow the format of doctrine, reproof, correction and now we go to instruction in righteousness and again, it's up to a higher plane even than what we have in the prison epistles because where does the word take us? up to glory! up to glory, see the i thessalonians chapter 4, 'we shall be caught up to meet him in the air and so shall we ever be with the lord.' ii thessalonians chapter 2 and after the departure of the church, 'then shall that wicked one be revealed.' and so those two letters take us
