sadly, steve in the media imate that we're in, cooperation is not news worthy. things that are negative are going to get the attention. and there are a lot of negatives that can get attention. but what gets attention is when i worked with bob corker to try to draft the bill forcing the president to submit an iran deal to congress for review. and he and i drafted that bill together and it got a 98-1 vote. when the bill was sub mid i supported the deal and he didn't. we support it in a partisan way. when lamar alex searned and patty murray rewrite no child left behind seven years after it expired nobody could figure out how to do it, but they rewrote it. we got a lot of educational portions of the bill. that was part and we got it done. a lot of things happened that attention but there are things that we have to get better. i do feel called to do things that are hard and where there's some brokenness that needs be fixed -- i think there are a lot of opportunities for me to be part an improvement of this place. >> senator tim kaine, thank you for your time. >> you

i think back to freshman orientation and look around the room and see a lot of my -- imates when we were want everybody that was better in that orientation, number 49 new members of congress. and we sat there at orientation and learn the basics of how to become a member of congress. what to do, how to vote, how to do an amendment. the basic stuff. colleague stood up in tears and ran out of the room. we also getting alerts. sandy hook had just happened. we all sat there. i still get chills thinking about that day. we are promised that at a minimum, we would focus on mental health, more funding, making sure we have background checks, make sure we reduce the magazine sizes, make sure we do something with these weapons that are meant for war and purely war. we have not had a single boat and the congress. membersast let the speak. this is a people's house. as of my colleagues referenced earlier, this is not normal. this does not happen enough. this passion you are saying is what is needed to get people to wake up. .here are some issues there are so many issues that we face. one of the committ
