imtiaz tyab is back with us. this is a troubled city, and there's been confrontations. in terms of where this sits, building tensions across east jerusalem, where does it stand in the eyes of people covering these events for months, years. >> i think when you speak to people who have been covering the conflict for a long time. most agree there's something different. for months there has been tensions, and it only is getting worst, it appears: when you consider you go to palestinian neighbourhoods, like behind me, where the far right jewish groups are buying neighbourhoods in these areas. that is seen as highly provocative. when you consider the fact that the israeli government announced huge expansion projects in different parts of occupied east jerusalem, and add to the mix that we have seen a number of neighbourhoods where palestinian youths had near nightly confrontations, many saying that they have been caught up in collective punishments through the actions of the security force, all of this leading to what we have seen now, which is a charged and tense situation,

let's speak to imtiaz tyab. and the palestinians are hoping to raise $4 billion from donors. it's a huge amount of money. how hopeful are they this they get this amount? >> very large amounts of money. unscoring the need here in gaza after that 7 week offensive by israel in the strip, in which 100,000 people are homeless. as a result. when we lock at 50 or -- look at 50 or so countries hoping to raise as much money as possible. notably absent is israel and hamas. the two sides usually engaged. with me is a spokesperson. hamas did not take part in the conference in cairo . tell me about your thought. >> hundreds of thousands palestinians will be happy. there's a chance that there'll be a fund for rehousing or rebuilding gaza. something that the international community is going to really distant behind he building gaza at this time. egypt is there. countries promised a lot of money. and the europeans, and so people, especially those that - whose houses are destroyed are expecting something soon, will start to take place. funding, money for rebuilding gaza, and money for housein

imtiaz tyab is live. officials are calling to a billion and a half for reconstruction. have they given an indication of how far the money would go, and what does it say that israel is not attending the conference in cairo. >> it's a huge sum. the palestinians are offering for $4 pillion after the 50 day conflict between israel and hamas. changes are considerable. if you look over my shoulder, this was someone's home. people used to live here. there's nothing left. it's a shell of a house, and just, you know, what you can see which is part of their life. scenes of destruction is what you can see. as you point out. they said that they hope to raise 1.5 billion for reconstruction needs. that question about why israel is not taking part is because, frankly, the relationship between israel and, indeed donor countries is not very good. there's reports that that may cast a shadow over what the people are trying to do. many are discussing a way to prevent the cycle of violence that we have seen in the gaza strip over the past six years. we have seen three wars in which many peo
