everyone from montana to alabama and right here in d.c. could see windchill warnings in the next few days. we have team coverage of this story tonight but we start with storm team 4 meteorologist to tell us when conditions will be at their worst. >> erika, it will be the coldest in our area late tomorrow night into early tuesday morning. at this point we could see windchill values in that time period for the d.c. area as low as 15 degrees below zero. so again, the coldest time period monday night into early tuesday at that point, temperatures alone will be in the single digits but it will be windy outside. so that will drive windchill temperatures inside of the beltway to as low as 15 degrees below zero and it could feel as cold as 30 degrees below zero for the suburbs to the north and west of washington. here's a look at what you could expect for that commute early tuesday morning as far as windchill temperatures are concerned. again, feeling about 15 below in d.c. and 30 below potentially. that would be the coldest for areas to the north

that just takes time and a lot of the reporters in d.c. just don't have time to do that because they are chasing the story of that day. the second problem is some journalists rely on people in powerful positions for their stories. that is where they get their leaks. that is where they get their interviews. they don't want to offend people in power because they might not get that exclusive interview that's going to help their position so it basically terms terms -- changes them from watchdogs into lap dogs. they don't want to offend people for fear of doing this. and then i think the third part of it is cultural. there is a gentleman who, and i won't give the name. he probably wouldn't mind if i did but i just won't. i had a conversation with somebody who was on television very frequently and lives in washington d.c.. i was talking to him about a year ago. he said i love your books but i could never write those kinds of looks. he said these people are my neighbors. my kids hang out with their kids. i couldn't write a book like that. so if yo

we know there are 15,000 people who are homeless in d.c. there are a lot of shelters in the city but still 1700 people live on the street. and living on the streets, sleeping in this type of weather can be very dangerous, even deadly for a lot of folks. that's why you see two of these not in service metro buses providing a great service for our homeless neighbors. inside you'll see dozens of homeless folks wrapped up in blankets getting away from the cold weather. the city is providing these buses at several locations throughout the city so homeless can get inside, stay out of the cold. the d.c. mayor launched this effort in conjunction with metro of course and d.c. homeland security at five different locations throughout the city. two buses here at union station. they started this effort at 1:00 yesterday until 7:00 tonight. so certainly folks have a place to go if they choose not to stay in the shelters, there is a warm place for them to just get out of the cold. it is d.c. law that during a hypothermia event and certainly there is a risk
