india and indo neisha. these are big places. india is over a billion people. indonesia, hundreds of millions of people. growing at 4%, 6% a even. perhaps even china has bottomed. and i think it's the problems with china are less structural and more transitory as china is growing from an investment based economy to consumption based. >> is that why you have bought budue, have you typically owned chinese stock or is this your first or your first in a long time? >> in our core international strategy or global strategy we have never owned a chinese company. and again, it's because price was too high, corporate governance was too wrong, or in these h shares which a lot of us foreign investors could invest in, all too often your partner on a share registry was a government entity, whether it be state, local, or federal. and we don't really like governments as being our partners. in the case of baidu it's basically a private company. they're the leading search firm in china. and of course advertising dollars are going to surge. as they get bigger and more -- control more of the search market they become more of a valuable to the advertisers. >> are you making a statement by buying baidu instead of alibaba, for example, about what you think about that company from a fundamental standpoint? and a transparency point of view? >> you know what, the transparency issue is a big one for us. and corporate governance. we just like the governance that brks aidu better than alibaba. you know, the whole thing with ali paying, et cetera, et cetera. we prefer baidu. and also i'm not a big fan of them starting to go into bricks and mortar. i mean, this is they had a great business model. online, especially, and consumer electronics. now you're going to bricks and mortar. really baidu to us is a better play and better value. >> i want to hit on one more topic before i let you go. >> okay. >> you are one of the larger shareholders in glen corp. are you, as you sit here today, are you worried about that company's long-term survival, its long-term vie i'mibiliabili? >> notal a at all. we like most of the commodities. we like their trading operation. their deleveraging. now, again, we wish they wouldn't have had all of that debt on the balance sheet to begin with. that debt would have been fine if copper would have stayed at 5, 6, 7, 8,000. but copper is at 5100. we would rather have a margin of safety and operationally leveraged company. but they're taking the right steps. and i think they're uniquely qualified to benefit when some of these prices firm and in the meantime contrary to what i think the bears are saying, that's a really top notch trading operation that is well capitalized. we're very happy to be invested in glencore at this price. >> you use the -- what has been a dramatic pullback in the shares to buy anymore. if you have that level of conviction around this business? >> well, i mentioned our mo is if we believe price drops significantly below that of value we add. and clearly that's what's happened, especially if you look at the last two weeks of september going into that monday when the share prices dropped. i think it was end of september, early october when the share price dropped 29% in one day, or 30% in one day. to us the value did not move in that same direction. so you could guess what we've did during this type of volatile price move. >> i'm a pretty good guesser. my guess is yes. david, we'll talk to you soon. >> thank you for having me. >> great to hear from you. >>> let's trade this, a little bit. do you have a thought? >> yeah. like i said, i think it's a little earl will i. i think we can be selective. we like india. no question that india is a market that is a little different within em. you have significant headwinds that are going to persist from my perspective. one being the prospect of the higher rates in the u.s. the other being, you know, weak commodity prices which i also think are likely to persist. in addition, structural reforms that have to happen that do not marry well with policy support. so they're kind of using the old playbook and at the same time trying to re-engineer their economy. >> very quick. >> i agree. i would say this. i think when you're looking at a very short term, i think the problem is we stay down here for a while. i think if you're looking for any kind of a sign that would come from the rails. that's an area that just seems to always give us em clues. i would look at something like canadian pacific. one of those names. when you look at where that stock was when things were going great and where it is now, i think the rails are a great tale. >> coming up, oil falli
