students at indiana university asked the justices to block the shot requirement at their school. more illicit ways to get around the mandates and get back on campus. move over, fake i.d.s. there's a new counterfeit business on college campuses, fake vaccination cards. >> it is really disturbing the length that some students are willing to go to subvert the university requirements. >> reporter: among those requirements at the university of north carolina chapel hill, a copy of a vaccination card before coming back to campus or students must be tested regularly. but at least one unc professor has raised the alarm about students possibly trying to use counterfeit vaccine cards. some students tell cnn affiliate wral their peers are buying them for as much as $200. >> we're on an educated college campus in one of the most educated places in the world. and it's like how can you be faking a vaccine when we have people to care about? >> reporter: unc isn't the only school where students are trying to skip both the shot and the tests. some have actually gone so far as to sue their school

this particular challenge came from students at indiana university. take effect next term, and they came to the courts on an emergency basis, trying to stop it. they lost in the district court, they lost in the federal appeals court. and that opinion was interesting, because the federal appeals court said it thought the vaccine mandate was okay, particularly it had accommodations built in for people who things like religious objection. but that didn't stop the students. after they lost there, they went to the supreme court and sent their application to justice amy coney barrett, because she has jurisdiction over that lower court. now barrett, she could have referred this issue to her colleagues onldz asked indiana university for its response. she didn't do either thing. she ruled swiftly against the students here, allowing this mandate to continue to remain in effect, pending legal appeals down the road. and why this is interesting, because this is just having to do with indiana university's mandate. but it sends a strong signal for all of these other

my mom was from indiana. but then my dad got transferred to jacksonville, florida 1952 i grew up from age eight and jacksonville until i left to go to college in 1962. i attended the university of alabama. i was in rotc because back in those days you were required at a land grant university to be enrolled in basic rotc your first two years. and then the vietnam war broke out while i was there there's a lot of talk about the draft really coming into play. a lot of folks getting called up and being sent to this place called vietnam, depending whether not you and lyndon johnson. i along with a bunch of my friends enrolled in advance rotc pretty graduated in 1966 in may of 1966 and after a few months of waiting for my assignment orders i went back to jacksonville, florida had a temporary job tried to make a few bucks before i left. in august i received my orders assigning me to the 25th infantry division and vietnam. first i had to go to school in virginia. >> before we get into your military tell us about your f
