we will get a look at the forecast in just a moment, but first we want to start with mike inouye and the traffic. >> two major accidents and two alerts. we have a deadly crash reported on the bay bridge. you are looking at this from our camera in san francisco. the lower deck is down to just one lane as best we can tell from the live look. chp reported two lanes were opened, though. east bay out of san francisco, on the lower deck before you get to treasure island, you are restricted to just one lane. from about fremont street over towards just about midway along the incline there. doesn't look like a lot but it will be a big problem as there are a number of vehicles are involved, and it's a deadly crash and the coroner has been called and could be another hour before they clear it. bart is always a great option, and so is the san mateo bridge on 82. the second crash is southbound 880 approaching 92, and that will be jammed up because past 92 will be where that second accident is. there's a trailer there, center scene there as chp has the lanes blocked off. your carpool lane or toll

mike inouye joins me right now. what do you know?i think we've got your mic worked out. >> apologies. checking in with the chp report, it does have initial comments saying 50 people were out of their vehicles on the golden gate bridge mid span. that corresponds to what we see. the northbound side is jammed up. at least one vehicle coming down. i think they've just released a few vehicles. whatever is going on mid span, it does involve some people out of their vehicles. we're trying to find the source of what the activity is, what they're trying to do. northbound is jammed up. we'll look at the map. you see we have jammed up traffic in both directions, the southbound side coming to the scene. again, the live picture we just saw does show traffic coming southbound. we're going to give it a couple of seconds and watch the taillights go past the south tower to mid span, perhaps onto the north bay side. the speed sensors, as we get back, we're showing northbound, but it releases just before it makes the marin county side and the south bay

nbc bay area's kris sanchez and mike inouye are tracking a big washout in the east bay, shutting down a key road. but first, let's get straight to meteorologist kari hall. she's got a look at where that rain is falling hardest at this hour. >>> we had widespread heavy rain and gusty winds this afternoon into the evening. there was a brief break this morning, but now we're closer to the core of this storm system spinning just off our coastline. the closer you are to that low, the higher the winds are and also the potential of their being more energy that could lift up this rainfall and produce some thunderstorms as we go into today. we're seeing some widespread scattered showers. the rain has been off and on. so, as we go into today, we're going to be watching out for the potential of thunderstorms. the storm prediction center hiting the bay area with this light shade of green, that is the risk of thunderstorms. but we're also watching out for the risk of tornadoes, and that's what we are seeing across parts of the sacramento and san joaquin valley. that in effect as we go into today a
