i did in my schooling in kansas in the 50s and 60s we had lots of things about history that were helpful. then wecontinue to add things that aren't grade appropriate so by the time they get to high school , they have a good cgrounding for taking their civics course. and then in high school i think we need a fullyear of civics and not just a single semester . we need more states to require, we still have states that don't even require the teaching of civics. we need that to be across-the-board and we need to move towards a four-year course and not just a half year. another improvement that i would make is i think we've gotten a little off track in failing to appreciate civic knowledge. we're moving in a lot of areas including reading that we teach reading these days as dv person others have pointed out as a set of .skills and away from reading literature for its own sake and history for its own sake and for better knowledge and understanding. so we need to be sure that we're not just teaching civic skills or how this government work. it's a push to get things done but we need to have be t
