it's been a godsend for intel.ong do you expect the netbook momentum that we've been seeing to last and, indeed, how big a deal is this going to continue to be for intel? >> i think it's going to continue to grow. it's clearly established itself inside of the mobile marketplace as being a pretty constant percent. the interesting thing is it really hasn't started penetrating emerging markets. most of the people who are buying them are buying them as second or third machines for something that's ultra portable in mature markets or tier one cities. as the cost continues to come down, i think the opportunities shifts from those to also include emerging markets. >> when we see this big momentum that we've already seen, which has had such an impact again on your sales and even on your margins, it sounds like you're saying it's only going to accelerate from here as opposed to slowing down. >> i think so. in general we're putting atom into a lot of places, not just net books. i think all those devices, you start looking at

intel's tone could be very positive. the channels we've been getting out of the pc market have been very robust. we've seen the third quarter unit build forecast improve from 9% sequential growth in june through a series of positive revisions we're now tracking up 22% sequential. so intel could very well do the high end of its just preannounced revenue guidance range, maybe even do better. the street estimates seem too low, the stock's trading about 14 1/2 times pro forma on numbers that may be too low. the pc stocks could have more room to run here. in terms of what we're going to hear specifically, we're going to hear updates on the product road map. we're going to hear updates on some of the new process technology, the ramping 32 nanometer. as well as just the overall health of the pc market and this trend toward mobility, netbooks, ultrasmall form factor computing. >> hey, craig, it's joe. if you look at the stock, though, and you look at the price action, it's done nothing since august 28th when they raised guidance

intel sat out the rally yesterday. intel and applied materials, two of the biggest components of the stock, were the drag while you saw mike raise theirs. intel supposed 1% here in the premarket. semiconductor, one of the drags, has a new offering. and that has the stock lower this morning. but watch the semis more or less. also watch microsoft, no surprise, reports indicate that the justice department has asked for more information about their new tie-up. a number of analysts are not expecting it's going to be as big a deal as it might have can yoo hoo and google had done that deal, that deal, remember, was announced back in july. and wynn resorts this morning is higher by about 3 1/2%. indicates they have been approved for a $1 billion ipo in hong kong. and that it could list as soon as at 9th. let's move on over to the nooi members and shar nymex. >> we have a mixed energy picture right now at the new york mercantile exchange. they pointed to the raising of the world oil demand forecast due to the increase in chines

higher than intel.amount of banning amd here even though we've called a triple in that speculative name, but we really have to get behind this competitor and do it right now. with two big new operating systems coming out, windows 7 and apple snow leopard, snow leopard hot az pistol, there should be a big upgrade cycle in pcs, which means more sales of nvidia's graphics processors. mobile internet kicker, nvidia has a line of chips called the tegra for portable devices like smartphones, navigation devices, pdas, just starting to ramp. these chips are in the iphone, zune, i know not everybodition favorite, but 50 other devices. here's the bottom line on nvidia. netbooks are huge. it's the fastest growing category. they don't cannibalize smartphones or notebooks. so nvidia is the smartest way to play them. but don't forget the netbook phenomenon is just another aspect of the mobile internet tsunami, which is bringing up all of these strong companies that i talk about endlessly. it's the netbook angle that

you look at intel and everybody says intel's done nothing. well, if you look back and see where intel came to hold this numbers, maybe it's just basing right now. same thing could be said right for texas instruments. i think you've got to be very impressed with the chip sector. then you go over into the other areas of the networkers, you look at juniper, positive comments today coming out of their cfo, and then you look over at ciena. another name in the networking space. but this time they're much more directly tied to research in motion, to iphone, to all of the phone data sort of retrieval process. you've got to like the direction now of tech. they haven't reacted like in a monstrous way, but you've got to remember you look back to july where we've come from across the fmh, across the xlk to reaction, the fact that they're holding up here, people aren't willing to sell right now is a very impressive stat. >> and i think with txn's aggression the moderation or the conservative guidance they gave us back in june i think that's what this is.

and intel, other chip stocks weak there as well. the other interesting story t t we've been following over the last couple of days is the move in electronic arts shares. the stock has been up the past couple of days on speculation that possibly a deal could be in the works between microsoft and electronic arts. and there's enough speculation in the market that microsoft came out today and executive there saying that they don't foresee anything happening there. and that's why you're seeing electronic arts shares pull back after a couple days of gains. down about #%. microsoft shares getting a little bit of the lift. a123, they make the lithium ion battery, up today. >> another decline for the price of crude leer today. the november contract down over $3, getting below $66. almost testing that $65 level. it's been in that trading range of $65 to $75 a barrel, really for about two months here, but today down five of the past six sessions torques a two-month low here today. we talked about the dollar story, pretty thoroughly here today.

intel getting up over at roth capital partners. the chips overall are chip resting today. quite a bit of profit taking in that area of tech because it's been one of the strong performers over the last few days as the nasdaq has risen. interesting this week, we've spent a lot of time talking about apple with steve jobs coming back and making the performance. but take a look at yahoo!. one of the strongest performers as far as the big caps on the nasdaq. the big tech caps, earning upgrade this week. some chipper comments from carol barts yesterday on squawk box. the stock is up 7%. winn resort is one of the biggest winners on the week on the nasdaq 100, in part because of a report it looks like they're going to get clearance for $1 billion ipo in hong kong. that's offering a big stake in their mccow holdings there, so they can build a second casino. and oracle, all this week, has been logging new highs. oracle set to report next week, expected earnings of 30 cents on the bottom line, with revenues of about $5.25 billion. sharon has been down at the ninex all week. >> it's be

clearly and only the positive story in this marketplace, in the dow, intel looked fairly attractive. we also saw strength in proctor & gamble. when all is said and done, the big heavyweights, the horses, the energy stocks, the chevrons, if you will, the coal stocks got crushed in the end. the materials, also down. discretionary and health care, among the hardest hit. the transports, let me look at the final board, down 51 points. pulled back almost even after the fed statement came out. and then to see it reverse down 51. clearly there's a negative on the economy here today. traders have had a really good gallop, not just for six months, were much more short-sighted down here. but really over the past 14 days, where we've now seen the market falling two days in a row. 50 points yesterday. another 80 today. which is going to start eating into that month-to-date gain, and maybe we've still got plenty of september ahead of us, maybe september will come back to bite us like it will. the caveat i keep hearing over and over again is the institutional investor that needs to chase the return
