stories of 15 people who were interned or impacted by the internment. and the exhibition highlights the individual stories of each of the japanese americans who came into the classroom, as well as the rich student responses to these stories. the project really gave the students space to make very meaningful connections between the historical event of the japanese internment and contemporary and historical instances of social injustice in america today. but we're here today to meet phillip and chloe, so i want to introduce you to them. phillip also was one of the gracious japanese americans who came into the classroom and told his story. phillip congatonda went to law school and graduated hastings law school but never actually practiced law. he became the first chronicler of the japanese american experience and is credited with broadening the japanese -- broadening the definition of theater by bringing jap needs american stories to stages all across the country. he has collaborated with the most diverse american theater venues, from large mainstream hous

my own view is that international criminal law the justification for the international criminal law is not so much that it deters future leaders for committing similar kinds of atrocities it might but deterrence is a negative effect it's very very difficult to prove it's very difficult to prove even in a domestic model so i look at the justification for international criminal prosecutions more as a symbolic gesture on the part of the global community that certain acts are just beyond the pale and i think it performs an extremely important symbolic function though again i wouldn't necessarily offer as a prime justification deterrence it might deter we simply don't know and the fact of course that the i.c.c. is such a young institution also suggests that if there's going to be any kind of deterrence effect that's likely not to kick in in told it has a much more robust rationale may they have to jump in here and we have run out of time fascinating discussion many thanks indeed and my guests in new york boston and should be and thanks to our viewers for watching us here see you next time a

i am the international program manager at world savvy. i was introduced to this organization because my roommate several years ago pulled me out of bed on a saturday at 7:00 a.m. and when i got there i was amazed at what i found. it was excitement on young people's face as they talked about food security and nutrition internationally. they were high schoolers and it was the world affairs challenge, which is now called the world savvy challenge. the program that we are represent right now is our international programs, our newest program as stated is a fully funded program for youth and educators. at it's highly competitive. so the students going on this program are truly amazing and we're lucky to be traveling with three students from san francisco unified and one educator from there. and just to highlight a few of these things that students will be doing, really stepping out of their comfort level
