iowa is more difficult. we always have a saying that in iowa the next event is always two hours from where you are, or three hours if there's a snowstorm. but on some days i would write a daily story in addition to what i was doing for the web. very often, as y'all know, there were dozens of debates. anddy baits tend to be an organizizing principal, particularly complain coverage. so at almost all of the debates i would either write sort of the lead news story or analysis of that debate. i traveled with the can date some. but we are people on the staff who were assigned to travel with hillary clinton, barack obama, and john mccain in particular. once we got past the early states and the campaigns at that point had their own charters. i would travel with the candidates a little bit, but not by any means every day or every week. i would try to go to states where the next events were. i would go to both of the conventions. in the fall, it is a different rhythm. you were driven by the debate cycle, in this case

on thursday he will visit iowa city, iowa, where as a presidential candidate he announced his healthwas signed, attorneys general from 13 states sued the federal government saying the constitution doesn't authorize the federal government to require americans to buy health insurance. all are republicans except james caldwell of louisiana who is a democrat. some states are also looking at other ways to avoid participating in the overhaul. virginia and idaho have passed legislation aimed at blocking the bills insurance requirement from taking effect. and the republican-led legislature in florida is trying to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot to ask voters to exempt the state from the federal laws requirements. the u.s. senate meets at 2:15 p.m. eastern today to begin work on companion legislation to the health care bill signed into law. it contains a number of changes to the law, many added to get democratic support in the house. senate democratic leader harry reid says he has the votes to pass it in his chamber. but republicans plan to offer a number of amendments to slow or

second chance to sell the health care reform plan and we saw him do it in iowa and in maine next week campaign as some of these reforms come online, they'll organize public events around them to highlight some of these benefits that will kick in almost immediately. at the same time, and i thought we heard beginnings of this in iowa, the president also preparing folks for a lot of these huge reforms aren't going to happen overnight. for example, the health insurance exchange. a lot of these things don't go into effect for years and years. on the one hand, they want the highlight the fact that armageddon didn't happen, as the president said. the more people realized all the doomsday scenarios didn't come to pass, well, that's a positive for them. as the same time, they'll think, what's this health care reform changing by life. the other side of it is an education campaign. a massive campaign within the federal government agencies to educate, make sure people understand the implementation of the various provisions of this law. a nightmare scenario in terms of at least what one senior aid
