into iowa. now, what yeah. >> this is really something we have seen when these bands going to place. they can affect the entire region. we saw this in florida, if you want to look at the impact of just the number of abortions access in the state from a six-week ban, we have data from south carolina where that happened in august of 2023. you saw abortions in the formal health care system declined by 71% in just the next month, september 2020 23 in terms of travel to nearby states, illinois is probably going to feel the brunt of it already. we've seen data from goodmark are showing almost triple the number of abortions from people traveling out of state into illinois in 2023, from 2020. we also heard from abortion providers in iowa. they're expecting planned parents they're saying they're beefing up their operations in minnesota and nebraska. there's going to be kind of a switch there because nebraska still has up until 12 weeks and then tirrell. thank you so much for explaining all that to us. ap

they say this is a devastating blow for the people and abortion clinics in iowa.>> folks in iowa, at least with planned parenthood, want to remind people that the clinics are still open for sci testing, ob/gyn needs for women and birth control. here in illinois, folks with planned parenthood are preparing for a surge in demand when it comes to care, and i spoke with the executive director of planned parenthood illinois, and she tells me, unfortunately, they have already gotten used to treating patients from other states. now, with this law, there are some exceptions. for example, if a pregnancy is the result of rape or incest, a woman has a certain time period to report that to a physician or a member of law enforcement. also, if it's determined the fetus cannot survive outside of the womb of the mother, an abortion will be allowed. and an abortion will be allowed if it's determined it's necessary to save the life of a mother. i asked the leaders in illinois if those exceptions bring them a little bit of comfort. here's what they said. >> lawmakers are forgetting

zach nunn is district 3 in iowa. still looking for district 1. peter baker, what happens if joe biden steps aside? what are the options on the table? >> a couple options. first of all, we're assuming he stays in office and he doesn't resign the presidency, which in which case kamala harris would become the incumbent. most likely is he would step aside as a candidate and say he wants to finish out his term and say he wants to focus on world affairs and turn the race over to someone else. the question is, does he anoint harris kaup as his successor? he appointed her. there's a concern pretty cat there. if he did that, i think it would be very hard for any other democrat to take the nomination away from her. if he doesn't do that, if he says it's a jump ball, let them all compete and see who does well, then obviously it's -- kamala harris starts off with an advantage as incumbent vice president but there's a number of other candidates who might jump in. not only is the convention next month, but they have to do their virtual roll call by august 7th
