iowa city may make it easier to recycle. kcrg-tv9's mark carlson explains the proposed changes. sweeping changes to the iowa city landfill are likely on the way in iowa city. the goal is to increase recycling. the firs apartment buildings to provide recycling services to tenants. that means all apartment buildings in iowa city would have to have more than just dumpsters out back, they'd need to find a way to allow tenants to recycle, so they wouldn't have to take their recyclables to outside services - like can collection sites.the next part of the ordinance would create a curbsite recycling program for food waste -- officials believe that could keep an estimated 500 year. and a third part of this plan - would prohibit people from throwing tv's and computer monitors into the landfill. and here in iowa city there is a lot of that going on with so many college students coming and going. officials believe that could keep an estimated 360 tons of waste out of the landfill. a grant will help convert public land into native prairie will help support monarch butterfly and receiving nearly 100-thousand dollars from resource enhancement and protection. that's
