isis because isis ones to be intimidating.on't think counterterrorism as a broad over all strategy or policy for the united states works well with isis. i also don't think that counterinsurgency is the right strategy or policy. counterinsurgency depends upon having a very powerful and to some degree in control of the territory government. the government in baghdad has underlined its own credibility and to some degree i believe its legitimacy, and what is happening in iraq is more of a civil war than an insurgency. and so one of the developments that you did not mention is that what the iranian shiite forces who are called the popular mobilization forces by many iraqis are actually wanting the united states to step back so they can take a bigger role. and this is causing a problem for the current baghdad government because they want to win and it's not always clear exactly whether it matters who carries out the actions on their behalf. so counterinsurgency is the wrong strategy. a tendency to think about iraq as if we were stil

one is the rise of isis in syria. one is the rise of isis in iraq.u look at a rack iranians are supporting the shiite militia in iraq. the united states is engaged in airstrikes. they just had an airstrike yesterday into crete. -- in itikrit. president assad: many others joined. so it is a mixture now. charlie: what is the possibility of iranian -- american cooperation? president assad: i do not think that anyone trusts that the american administration really wants to fight these kind of terrorists. the whole launch, much less the airstrike [indiscernible] why did they join? they want to get part of the cake? we defeated isis, where were they in the last two months. it is not something we wanted to attack and -- charlie: so what do you think they want in iraq? president assad: they want to get rid of the terrorists. no one knows how long it will take. they there is isis and many extremists. charlie: when you look at the future, in view look at the battle ahead, how much of the conflict that is here today can the syrian government withstand? how much

how to conquer isis ideology. like i told you it's almost too late when someone starts buying into the isis ideology discourse. before that it's difficult because a lot of parents tell me that they were surprised that their sons joined isis. one of them for example and i should cite in the book the child would use an application. i don't know of anyone involved in pro-democracy activism the application is very useful for countries in the middle east. so you don't -- the government cannot monitor the application. with a application does basically as it turns a smartphone or a phone into a walkie-talkie and you can start to listen to sermons from isis and the territories and you can listen to them from your home. you don't have to have access to the internet or social media or that sort of thing. a lot of parents for example one parent said he found his son listening to these sermons. he said don't listen to these people. they are deviant and the child would say i'm curious about it. i don't like them so a few month

isis is a threat for central asia? >> is a threat for anywhere i am not an expert on central asia but i know a lot of central asian -- asians are in syria and iraq come from different countries. in terms of symbolism for isis they have this discourse which is an area that historically used to be controlled by muslims muslims. it used to be a center for a lot of movements which is in central asia. al qaeda appeal to them and isis appeal to them but i don't claim to be an expert. >> hassan thank you very much.
