what a lot of us are seeing now with covid and a video interview then nine of us were brought to ithaca because it's a joint project with university of hawaii with a food study that was the main push and when they get bored the same food over and over. that was a major aspect of our mission. in the attempt to have us work together and maybe that made a difference but all people broadened would have been great. at a certain point you get people who are really interested in you feel like this is someone i want to spend four months wit with. >> at the same time it's like make-believe. you are all pretending to be on a mission are there moments that you goof off we are just kidding or did you maintain the strategy all the time? four months is a long time to spend with reality. >> we had a lot of things helping with the isolation. one of those was the fact our communication was delayed by 20 minutes each way. we couldn't have phone call home no real-time internet. no social media which is a blessing, really. but at the same time it made us feel disconnected it wasn't necessarily because we h

it was a video interview and then there were nine of us that were brought to ithaca, because this was a joint project with cornell university and the university of hawaii to do a food study. that was like the main push of the high seas, the very first high seas project was to study after a food and the way they get bored eating the same foods over and over again. that was one of the major aspects of our mission. so they brought us to cornell and n/a test kitchen they set us all up and saw how we worked together. something about that made the difference. i don't know. but really all nine people who were brought in would've been great. at a certain point you people are really interested and unique in and you just kind of feel like it's someone come you ask yourself the question, is this woman i would want to spend four months with? that a lot of what it was about. >> the same time he makes a clear new book it's a little like make-believe, right? you were all pretending to be on this mission. are there moments where you say oh, and you goof off and you say this is really, we're just kidd

we did the study with regard to the conditions here at ithaca.does not necessarily apply elsewhere. basically what we know is up to about 50% of our undergraduates plan to return to ithaca regardless of whether we're online or having face-to-face classes. they've told us that through surveys and we have spoken with local landlords. and the issue is that if we are having residential instruction, we can mandate testing testing and tracing and isolation on a very aggressive regular basis. we will be much less able to do that with students online who happen to be living in ithaca as opposed to chicago or atlanta or wherever. >> right martha, let's talk about this testing and tracing plan it's ambitious, it's aimpreggre and perhaps could be a model for others, not just universities. you're going to be doing what's called pool testing. how frequently is that testing going to happen? >> the plan is to test every single student once a week originally for the first test it may be the nasal test you see being done all over the country. that would be very u

first of all, cornell is in ithaca, new york, which is rural new york state.k state is doing a great job now on the outbreak, has very few cases, and rural new york is probably a pretty safe place to be able to open up a college. it's very different than to think about a primary school or a secondary school in phoenix right now where the mayor was on or in florida or in texas. it's a completely different situation. also cornell has a lot of resources that they're going to throw at this. most public schools don't. it's just going to be much harder, and we've got to get going on planning for a fall where i hope we can get kids back in. >> dr. jha, i've been fixated on this concern about burnout and exhaustion among the doctors and the nurses who have been on the front lines of this pandemic for months. is there a public health solution to this? are there ways that the public or the hospitals should be thinking about how to avoid just the complete burnout of the professionals that we're going to need in the months ahead? in the fall, flu season will start and thi
